I HATE PARENTS!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I coach 10u boys baseball, and I'm getting so sick of parents. Most of them have been great, but there's a few that are awful. 2nd time I've had this kids parent pull me off the field. There is no pitch count requirement in our league. The league states no more than 4 innings a week, but I keep a close eye on my pitchers because I was seriously injured pitching.

So, their son had a rough first inning with walks, but really got going the 2nd inning. He looked awesome, and my pitcher said he was really finding his groove out there. I was letting him go into the 3rd, when his mom pulled me from the field, and started laying in me. Luckily this was right in front of my assistant, and he couldn't believe what happened. These parents keep their kid on a strict regimen, and if I don't follow it word for word they lay into me.

I kept my cool, and took their kid out. I'm just so sick of parents right now. I had a kid quit because he wasn't getting enough innings according to his mom. This kid wasn't the best, but I still played him over half the innings. I can't believe how awful these parents are.

I told my assistants that this pitcher will not pitch the rest of the season, or won't play the next game. I'm don't thinking these parents can walk on me.

Welcome to coaching man it's so stressful. Some parents think their kid is the next Jeter while other parents have sissified their kid. Tonight we had a game and really needed this kid to pitch and he says to me "do i have to?". He half assed it so we pulled him and parked him the rest of the game. Keep your head up and stay the course kudos to you for letting the parents know who's team it is.

A relative of mine is a teacher and faces the same problem.

I used to run a scoreboard for little league games in my area. My friends kept trying to get me to be an umpire but there was no way I was putting up with parents arguing the strike zone all game. Way too many morons who lay the blame anywhere but their son who won't take the bat off his shoulder.

I've seen many cases of parents wanting their kids to be showcased so colleges will notice them and possibly offer a scholarship, essentially getting them off the hook for their college tuition. It's a sad world we live in. This is also why so many high school athletes no longer play in the district they live in.

I've gotten lucky. I've no had any parents complain. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Keep up with it. It's bound to happen soon. It happens to the best due to the dichotomy of some parents being cutthroat competitors and others being major laid back, "lets just have fun" types. Can't make both parties happy, have to play to both desires and can't go full tilt either way.

Both of my parents teach and my dad coached football forever, so I definitely know where you're coming from. From what I've observed, just offer them your whistle/clipboard/hat and ask if they would like to devote unpaid hours teaching their kids and other kids how to play. I'm assuming you'll get a resounding "no thanks, you're doing great."

The sense of entitlement out there is unreal. Especially Dad's coaching together so they can stack the teams.

Starts early in elementary school. At least in soccer and lacrosse the refs can now red card the fan and have him removed from the field or that team forfeits the game.

And tell Mom and Dad to stop coaching from the sideline, the kid can't hear you anyway.

OT: I hate the lets just have fun parents in youth sports. Granted I have only experienced those people from the youth perspective, but I hated when they would shout out "encouragements" about it doesn't matter if you win or lose. It always matters....... always.

I feel your pain, jaybob. I teach 6th grade math. The worst part of the job is the parents. Most seem to think their kid should get an A just for showing up. The cartoon posted above would be funny if it wasn't so true. Too many don't hold their kids responsible for their grades, actions, etc. They are always looking to blame someone else.

To be fair, I have worked with some good ones. I just wish they weren't becoming the minority. It really makes me double sure to be intentional about raising my kid right.

Glad to hear others have the same problems. The cartoon picture is exactly right. Most people now have the attitude, "it's all about me" or "what's in it for me."

I'm a guy where a handshake means a lot. Some of these parents just have no clue, and think their kid is the best athlete ever. I'm just shocked by how some of these parents act.

I'm just so thankful an assistant was right there to witness it.

It is still the regular season, wait until you coach the All-Star team and ever parent thinks their kid is the best and that you should win every game. While they sit in the shaded bleachers and scream at you and your team. You gotta love it.

I coach a 5th-6th grade football team. Every year in my intro letter to parents, I state I'm an open door unless it involves playing time or player positioning. For that, they need to go to the league commissioner.

I had an issue my first year with an over-zealous dad thinking his kid was the greatest. Surprisingly, the letter worked wonders...or I've just had a great group of parents the past two seasons! ;-)

Only advice I have is to not sit the kid because of his parents. Not pitching him the rest of the year is the better option. He still gets to play, but you also get to show the parents that if they want to complain you can solve it by not throwing him. I just hate seeing the kid punished for the parents being jackasses.
