Fred Glass addresses Crean and last season

Recommended Posts

Another excellent interview by ITH. I really like Glass as an AD. He just gets it. Great quotes about his CBI comments and the disappointing IUBB season.

I hope Coach Crean does well, but if he doesn't make it to the tournament next year, I hope Mr. Glass can be objective on his decision to attain him. That being said i think next years team will surprise us next year, because we are very athletic and our shooting will improve in all positions.

[/quote] "On whether the financial ties to Tom Crean are so strong that even if his confidence wavered, they would have to stick with it:

“I don’t really like to address hypothetical questions. I’m thrilled with Tom, he’s going to be here for a long, long time. We always, regardless of the sport, we do what’s right for the programs and sort of let the financial chips fall where they may. To me, that’s not an issue in almost any aspect.”"

I think the last two sentences of this statement speak to Glass' stance on a buyout if next year is equally disappointing.

Glass is a class-act AD. The future of Indiana Hoosier sports is in very capable hands IMO. He seems to be the guy who can make all the right decisions, no matter how tough, with a clear mind and vision for where IU wants to be and how we can get there. LOVE IT.

I really hope he realizes that personal relationships do not trump what's best for his University. Tom has done great things for us and we owe him a lot, but now that we are back we cannot regress. This season is so big for so many reasons. I think we need some marquee 2015 names if Tom is going to change hearts and minds if we have another mediocre season.

I guess we have different definitions of mediocre. To me failing to even make the NIT isn't mediocre, it's $%*#.

Use whatever descriptors you want, but it's just going to start another worthless argument. Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

All I said is that failing to make the NIT doesn't meet my definition of mediocre. Synonyms include so-so and middling, related words include decent, okay, respectable, sufficient and acceptable; failing to make two tournaments totaling 100 teams doesn't meet any of those words IMO.

Goodness, have people gotten so sensitive to criticism of the program/coach that saying failing to make the NIT isn't mediocre is cause for alarm? Wow. My intention wasn't to hijack the thread, it was to point out calling the season mediocre isn't accurate.

Mr. Glass had some positive things to say that made me feel he gets where we as a program want to be. I just think when it came to Coach Crean he said nothing but positive things because he can't publicly bash him. It's bad PR.

Personally, I'm just going to try to take a fresh look into this upcoming season and see what comes it and judge according to the talent we have, how they mesh together, how effective job he's done in tightening our defense (too many open threes comes glaring to mind) and how the offense is distributed and adjusts.

I don't owe Coach Crean anything because that's why gets paid the big bucks. I only owe it to my University to wish and help create the best product on the floor.

I must be giving Crean a pass if I used mediocre instead of an expletive. For the B1G as a whole it was mediocre, for IU it was less than mediocre. Yay Crean! #1 fan!

The problem with calling it mediocre, to the extent that there is a problem, is that it makes it seem like we don't expect very much. If we barely squeak into the NIT next season, I doubt most people would consider that a good season. But, when you say that a season when we did not make the NIT is mediocre, it makes it appear that an NIT berth would be what we at IU think is a good season.

That doesn't make you a Crean apologist. You just misspoke. It's cool.

You do this in every thread. Someone doesn't rip open Crean for the **** season (see I didn't like it either) we had last year, and you instantly have to take the thread off topic about how bad last season was. What is everyone's 5 year plan? Is missing the tourney okay once every 5 years? Do we have to have at least one final four every 5 years?

Sent from my sarcastic iPhone using BrownBanners
If we had to I would like to miss the tournament once every six or seven years. I would also at least want us to make the elite 8 at least twice in that same span. Going to the final four you need a little bit of luck but going to the elite eight depending on the type of seed we receive should at times be expected and demanded. I think that's fair expectations for a state school that lives and breathes basketball.

Missing the tournament every 5 years should get you fired at IU, unless there's a championship mixed in there too. IU should be one of those programs on selection Sunday where they say "Indiana is the #2 seed in the Midwest, making their 11th consecutive NCAA appearance".

I agree with that.. Syracuse, Duke??
Always higher seeds consecutively. We're not among those names.
