Why aren't we recruiting guys from Indiana?

Percentage of top 500 football players in Florida and Texas, and their success rates in recruiting those in state kids?

In 2014, 8 of the top 15 players from Texas left the state, including 3 of the top 5. Of the 7 that stayed, 3 are headed to TAMU and 2 each to UT and Baylor.

In 2014, 7 of the top 20 players from Florida left the state, including 2 of the top 3. Of the 13 that stayed, they were split pretty evenly among FSU (3), UF (3), & Miami (4).

Also, why are we talking about Football? Those schools take about 25 recruits PER YEAR. Basketball recruiting rarely gets higher than 5-6 per season.

This has turned in to the dumbest thread ever. Let's get to the root of it. The elephant in the room. Why aren't we recruiting high and tight haircut small town Damon Bailey clones anymore. That's what the question is. Stop dancing around it. The answer? Because it isn't 1990 anymore.

Its interesting how football talent rich states like Texas and Florida have their own lining up to play for the home schools while basketball talented state Indiana kids act like they cant wait to leave.

Delroy Baker was down to IU and Florida. He chose IU. Are you sure you're on the right board?

To convert those numbers to basketball:

Of the top 14 players in Indiana (that's all 247 lists, because basketball and football are - again - completely different), 4 stayed in state and no more than 1 went to any particular school. 1 is still undecided. Only 1 from the top 6 is staying in-state (Blackmon).

This isn't because guys don't want to stay in-state. Roster space is more of an issue with basketball and teams can only take a few players at each position (AT BEST) per year. Indiana has done well picking up in-state players, and really only missed on Harris IMO. Bluiett is a great player but not at a position of need. Lyles is Lyles. Zak Irvin and GR3 were Michigan leans for a long time and never were considered to be all that much in play for IU. Demetrius Jackson was ND all the way. Skim those guys off the top and you're complaining about Bryant McIntosh and VJ Beacham. Boo hoo..

Here's how the rest of B1G country did keeping guys in-state in 2014 (per 247 rankings):

Illinois: 6 of 27 stayed (0 of top 5), 1 to Illinois and 2 to Northwestern

Indiana: 4 of 14 stayed (1 of top 6), 1 to Indiana and 1 to Purdue

Iowa: no rankings

Michigan: 1 of top 8, but 0 to UM or MSU

Minnesota: 0 of top 4 (3 are top 100 players)

Nebraska: no rankings

Ohio: 4 of 13 stayed, 2 to Ohio State (both in top 4 of state)

Pennsylvania: 3 of 9 stayed, 2 to Penn State (#5 and #8)

Wisconsin: 1 of 7 stayed, 0 to UW

and the new guys...

Maryland: 1 of top 13 staying, headed to Maryland... 2 still undecided

New Jersey: 1 of top 16 staying, but not to Rutgers... 1 still undecided

What? I'd like to see you actually respond to the actual, you know, facts.

Well, if you believe that, then you should believe Crean when he says JB2 was who he wanted and got out of 2014.  This thread wasn't touched for 5 days, and you had to revive it with this?  If I don't see you again, have a good one.
