NBA Draft: Noah Vonleh

Recommended Posts
I think he'd be a perfect fit in Sacramento. Him and Cousins in a few years would be scary, Cousins scoring and rebounding, with Vonleh defending, rebounding, and spacing the floor... That could be a dominant front court.
Sacramento's a few pieces from being REAL good. Only if they keep Thomas and Gay.

Gay is slowly becoming a much more efficient offensive player. Not the biggest fan of Thomas but they need a PG. Sac could also draft a PG instead of a PF.

Yeah they can let Thomas walk this off season if they want. Depends what pick they get probably.

MJ may not know what he's doing...

but if the 2013 NBA rookie class was redrafted today, the draft order would likely be:

1) Oladipo, IU; 2) Carter-Williams, Syr; 3) Burke, UM; 4) Zeller, IU.

Just sayin'.

Hardaway Jr. would have gone before Zeller

I've been championing Sac-Town for him for about a month now. Makes a lot of sense, he more than likely would get playing time, while at the same time not being asked to do too much.

Zeller would go about 8-10 in a redraft.  He did fairly well his rookie year but not #4 well.  Someone already did this and he went in the 8-10 range.

What about Bill Self??? He took the "NEXT LEBRON" and lost tons of games, and hardly advanced in NCAA.  Also the "NEXT LEBRON" may go #3 or #4 in draft.  Recruits are still flocking there every chance they get.

Doesn't exactly sound like he disliked Crean or would bad mouth him. The bad mouthing talks have all yet to be backed by fact, so he is proof of his support of IU and Crean. I'm sure the naysayers will find a way to dispute this though.

Who would you expect it to be backed up by?  If you want to hear something from IU or ITH or Peegs you're going to be disappointed because it won't happen.  The reasons are obvious as to why.  Which kind explains your link, it's an ITH interview Noah isn't going to say bad things about Crean to them because it's an IU site.

It's actually an interview with NBA TV.

A coach that pushes kids past their limits and prepares them for any offense in the NBA sounds like a good coach to me.

Well you're wrong on that one. The interview wasn't even with an IU site.

Where did this Noah bashing rumor even start? What is the epicenter of all of this. It seems to have gained a lot of traction with no real insider info or anything. Can anyone provide links or tweets or anything?

There was a article published with quotes, and I believe the stuff about NV bashing IU was brought up then.

Even in that article which "indicates" he didn't bash Crean and IU, he says some know he is versatile, but some people don't know he can handle the ball and create for others.

The "other" interview was his AAU coach saying he was underutilized.

Plus rumors surfaced during Goodlucks recruitment that Noah was not happy at IU. And that he said as much to GO.

Both of the quotes say the same thing. He seems to demonstrate respect for Crean but clearly feels he was capable of doing more. As much respect as I have for Crean and what he has done for Wade, Oladipo and others, I think Noah is right that he could have been better utilized.

This to me is the most plausible explanation.  It is not crazy for him to feel he is underutilized and tell a friend who was thinking of coming here.  He was.  We all felt it.  I am sure an 18 year old felt it on a magnified level.  He is trying to make millions and wanted the ball more.  Crean felt his best chance at winning was the way it went I suppose.  It is what it is.  No reason to hate on Noah though.  I feel things all of the time.  Doesn't mean every one is right or wrong.

^ ^ ^ I agree as well ^ ^ ^

But playing the "devil's advocate" here, to what extent do you think it was the inexperience on the court from the other players as well as the lack of perimeter shooting that caused Vonleh to be underutilized?

I feel that in some instances it was clear that we were trying to get him involved, but all the teams we've faced just crowd up the post and double Noah to the point that getting the ball to him was difficult at best, especially for a young team.  If Vonleh would be at center during this next year, it would force a different defensive strategy.  Defenses would have to pick their poison, either allow Noah some space under the basket, or allow open shots on the perimeter, they can't do both all the time.  We just didn't have many options last year, and other teams knew where to hurt us.

That certainly seemed to be part of the problem. Another part of the problem was Vonleh himself. He often failed to get and maintain proper position in the post long enough to get the ball The guards and Vonleh rarely seemed to be on the same page at the same time. Vonleh was also terrible at dealing with double teams. Whenever opponents doubled him, he either turned the ball over or forced up a difficult shot.

I think Noah will develop in the NBA at a very fast rate....also NBA teams, love their measurements....Not that Katz is a good comparison but....damn his hands are huge.  Is it me or does he have an E.T. phone home thing going on here?
