Get an Indiana guy to be an actual assistant coach. Crean can handle the recruiting. He and Buckley did a fine job in the state prior to last season. No, this job shold be given to an IU guy. Give Fife, Michael Lewis, Guyton, Cheaney, even Greg Graham a look. We have no one on that bench that can educate player success at Indiana. These guys can. A hire like that might even call the dogs off of Crean until the season starts. Promoting Judson makes no sense. He hasn't the credentials to be an assistant coach at Indiana. If he wants to be Director of Ops and carry a clipboard..fine, but not an assistant. I see no measure of success from him as a coach or assistant to merit promotion. BE SMART HERE CREAN!!!!

Ex-IU guys have clout and connections in Indiana. They have names and playing careers that in-state recruits and their parents know. It would be really nice to keep those recruits from going to UK or TOSU. Ex-IU guys also understand what it's like to play here, go to class here, etc. That means something.

In state recruits. LMAO. Like they even know who Jared Jeffries even is. We can't land Indiana kids because no one gives a chit about tradition anymore. It's all about jerseys and playing time.

Recruits probably also have no idea that the guys next to coach K all played at Duke for him until they are told that. But it works for Duke every year. They always have a bench full of former players.

I want the most personable person out there with ties to a distinct area like KJ.  He has to have personality and be on the same page as Crean.  I do not care if he went to IU, because kids today most likely would not know him or would have watched him.  Mainly due to him not having personal ties in the area and he didn't make a lasting impression on the NBA.  I just want a guy who could walk into a gym and a kid feels good about seeing him.  Whether it is because he is with IU or because of who he is as a man.

Agreed.  Their parents were probably younger than they were when that team was around.

Whoever we get, chances are we haven't even heard of the guy. We need a guy that does his job well like Jeff Meyer, like Kenny Johnson did, etc.  Somebody that has AAU connections, and someone familiar with the midwest and has networking ability with the local HS coaches.  Is that Greg Graham?  Is that AJ Guyton?  The problem with those two is they've never had a position quite like this.  Time will tell.

I think we need a recently I retired NBA vet. It makes sense bring in someone that the kids can relate to and grew up watching in the NBA

I think Jared Jeffries would be awesome.. Not sure if he would be interested but I would like it. Played at Indiana when it was "indiana" so he'd likely be very passionate. NBA name recognition... If he's scouting for the nuggets he'd be presumably pretty good at evaluating talent on the recruiting trail. My only reservation would be how much of a connection he has to AAU and high school coaches
