What Does it Mean to Play for Indiana?

Recommended Posts
It used to mean making the NCAA tournament was an absolute minimum expectation, now it's a pat on the back and "way to go, great job". It used to mean the Sweet 16 wasn't that impressive, now you get rings for it (and a ludicrous extension). It used to mean results, now it's excuses for the lack of results.

If I were to email I'd say something like: It means playing for the name on the front. It means knowing individual recognition will come with team success. It means knowing why we wear the candy stripes. It means not giving up until the final buzzer sounds. It means opponent seeing 'Indiana' and knowing it will be a war.
What you described has not been Indiana for 20 years, well before Crean. Indiana went to one sweet 16 from 1994 to 2011. ONE!

When the program goes 15 years with one appearance in it, it kinda does.

behind your keyboard be tough but I would LOVE to see you walk up to Victor Oladipo, Cody Zeller, Jordan Hulls, Christian Watford and any other IU player and tell them they didn't accomplish anything those years

Actually, Will himself said they weren't happy with it.  Nice try.

You can settle for mediocrity, me I'll hold the program to a higher standard.

In 2011, it was an accomplishment. I remember going into the 2010 and 2011 seasons my dad and I just hoped IU would finish over .500 and go to the NIT. In 2011, they overachieved and went to the S16 and lost to the eventual champions.

2012-13 S16 was a total disappointment to me and many other Hoosier fans.

Not being happy with it is different than it not being an accomplishment. Nice try to you bro

It still doesn't make it an accomplishment.  In 2011, maybe, now?  Not hardly.

It's not, going once in 20 years it just means the program hasn't done s*** and bad coaching hires a big part of that.

Again disappointment does not mean 2012-13 team didn't accomplish anything. I'm sure that whole team would take offense to that given what they tangibly achieved throughout regular season

I expected a tourney appearance in 2011, but an early exit.  I expected NIT the year before.

Did I say they didn't accomplish anything?  No, winning the B1G is an accomplishment.  The Sweet 16 isn't.

Back to back sweet 16s for first time in 19 years. That is an accomplishment.

I don't care what your expectations were those players did accomplish something. They represented the university and exemplified what Indiana basketball players should be. And guess what? They were all brought in and developed by Tom Crean. You all can laugh about Crean's tweet but he does know and understand what an Indiana basketball player should be based on how he built that squad.
