What Does it Mean to Play for Indiana?
The point is making the Sweet Sixteen isn't something that should be celebrated the way it was. Giving out Sweet Sixteen rings was an absolute joke
Were you excited when IU beat VCU? Did you celebrate that night and that entire week or just silently turn off your tv and not get excited or celebrate? It's not like the players packed it in and didn't improve after that. They did came back and built a B1G champion. You're talking ambiguities with "we celebrated it too much" Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

So every time I celebrate something I should get a ring now? Getting Sweet Sixteen rings is a joke.

We may want more but it is the tourney. Let's live in reality that a lot of 1 seeds do not go past the sweet 16. That upset by a very good Syracuse team was not a major upset.

Who cares what they got. Those rings were more about going from 12 to 27 wins beating 3 top 5 teams than sweet 16. Those players worked their asses off to bring IU back to that level. They deserved it.

The tournament can be a crap shoot, but here's another bit of reality for you.  Despite that the top coaches are still staples in the deep rounds.  That's what we should expect, that's what Crean is paid for.

It goes both ways. I'm not saying Crean is great I'm just pushing back against people saying that our teams in 2011-12 and 2012-13 were failures because the 2 year run did not end in a title. Those players worked too hard and achieved too much to get this ridicule from fans base. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

So in other words, it was a participation ring. Oh my how we have fallen in some of our eyes.

The top coaches occasionally get upset in the first few rounds, but they are staples in the deep rounds.

All I'm saying is the Sweet 16 really isn't that much of an accomplishment (I don't consider it one period, I don't celebrate it), no one considered it one until the last few years.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, if we want to get back to the level we should expect we have to hold ourselves to that level.  That is where the bar was set, it's up to the team to meet the bar not the other way around.

Those rigs were about a sweet 16 as they were sweet 16 rings. They weren't career achievement or being IU back rings.

Ultimately they achieved sweet 16s. 2012 awesome. 2013 was a disappointment and or struggles point to Crean not the players. The fans love the players and dislike the coach.

Look at the rings. Stated accomplishments of that season as prominently as sweet 16

You can have high expectations and appreciate accomplishments even if you don't reach lofty goals.

I can't imagine how any fan could have watched that VCU game and not celebrated the win. What's even the point at that point if you're not celebrating an exhilarating win

Call me old school but I feel only a national championship deserves a ring. They got a special banner to point out how special that group was.

It just shows that IU ha lowered the bar and it is used against Crean on the recruiting trail. The Crean supporters don't realize how damaging that s16 loss coupled with this terrible season had on recruiting.

But it's cool we got 2012 achievement rings. We good.

You know all the teams at IU under Knight won a B1G title got rings not just national titles? How old school are you?

Did you know 2011-12 was most wins by an IU team since 1993?

Did I say we're good? Never said we're good at this point but let's lay off 2011-13 teams. They did nothin but good things for IU

Also just because you don't view the sky as falling and 2012-13 as a failure doesn't make you a Crean supporter or loyalist. Makes you more of a realist and not such a group of guys in the Barber Shop talking about hickory high. Which is what you all are at this point with some of the assertions you make about the program

Most people who call themselves a realist or say they have a realist view point aren't actually a realist. They just agree with their own opinion. Not saying you are or not, but self attained titles don't really mean anything

A B1G championship ring is much different than a sweet 16 ring. In fact I never heard of a sweet 16 ring before Crean ordered one. Kinda like his B1G banner which only one other is in Assembly and that was Knights banner for the fans in 1983. Nothing to take away from the players from 11-13 but they just did nit accomplish what others who have set the bar did.

We had a full gym of Hickory High that all booed in unison during one game at home regarding Creans sub patterns. That's what you get at IU. A gym full of knowledgeable fans and alumni that you just can't bs if you cant coach. Its all out there and no amount of sweet 16 rings will change it.

Yeah, we won that game against an elite 8 team/B1G champ. Awful job by coach in that one. Didn't we learn that the barber shop guys for hickory high thought they were knowledgeable and knew the team but actually knew nothing? Remember when they tried to run Coach Dale out of town? Not the group I'd want to be compared to.
