Crean Threads and Forum Civility

Recommended Posts
Yep. It had to do with that civility thing I am commenting on.
I added on to what I said. I dropped my phone and my message sent before I was done.

At the end when it was locked you had guys who don't agree with Crean being fired going into the thread complaining and trying to get it locked. I get you guys were trying to keep it civil but with that said if the thread where people talked about it got closed you can't really be surprised if it spills into other threads. If the people who complain about people always talking about it had left that thread alone the fire Crean posts in every thread wouldn't be as bad as it's gotten in the last day or so.

Just my .02 cents.

Pretty much both sides of this were addressed above, right? If we find posters who seem to be trying to get a thread locked by trolling, they will be dealt with. The point still remains, if you want to start another thread, go ahead, but lets not hijack other threads to keep rehashing the same point.

Yep, Reb said it best.  We as mods hate this shit, because we don't alway disagree with the people we have to punish and they think we are censoring them.  We are protecting the integrity of the board.  It is hard sometimes to keep things civil in the right thread.  We know that.  We are fans with an opinion too.  Just please try to keep it civil.  Both sides.  Don't troll and act like it is an opinion.  Stuff like that.

Isn't the whole point of a thread to defend your beliefs in regards to OP's? Couldn't one say that consistently making similar threads will end with the same results? The same things are said by the same people in threads NOT about Crean, why would we expect it to change in a thread about Crean?

I am developing a theory that someone could come up with a predictive algorithm that would accurately tell us in any discussion between IU fans that is not initially about Crean how long it will take until the discussion becomes about Tom Crean. I believe this could be done based on keywords in the original and subsequent posts.

Alas, I am not good at the maths, but there is a patent in there for someone.

I just want to comment that the people that blow up threads and act like children kind of ruin it for those people who go to those threads to see if there is any development in that particular topic. If I click on a link for discussions about recruiting/team topics, I don't want to read about peoples pissing contests about who is right or smarter.

This is exactly what we try to emphasize. We allow quite about of leniency of threads, but issue warning posts to keep it civil because of the trend the thread is taking. What EVERYONE needs to realize is when you don't stop the bickering, it hurts the entire board. Other posters don't want to participate in threads with constant bickering, and leads to posters leaving quickly the board without posting on other threads. The mods have their reasons for what we do, even though it doesn't seem like it right away. There's a reason we are the best IU fan forum on the web, and we will keep doing what we do to sustain and elevate that!
