Indiana vs. Nebraska Post Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Jeff Howard did nothing on the court. Williams and Yogi were chucking up bad shots. It's like we watched our games when we lost and said "let's go do that". 8 points scored after we tied it at 52. Pathetic. This group has low basketball IQ and minimal heart at the end of games.
Reading body language and effort on the court. I am a highly competive person and hate to lose. I have played many sports, hockey and basketball namely, and my effort always shone through. Sheehey had it, Davis had it, yogi had it. Anyone else working their arses off? And in Sheehey and yogi's cases it lead to dreadful performances, but they were fighting for it. I have not collectively seen the fight with these guys all year.

So basic answer is my judgement based on observation.
Thanks! Wasn't attacking or judging, just wondered :)

Really curious what the game plan was coming into the game? Not only that, the players we so flat the first half. Just don't understand this game. Feel sorry for Will. Hope they can go on a miracle run and win the NIT.

Just watched the postgame presser. Will looked like he was fully prepared to break someone's neck if the opportunity presented itself. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Will didn't look in the best of moods however, he really handled himself in a first class manner considering the circumstances.

Go Hoosiers!

Rough loss. NIT here we come. Just saw a projection for the NIT bracket having us as a 3 seed. Looks like our seniors get another game in Assembly Hall. Hope they can go out on a winning note when that occurs.

Who's the matchup? I think it would be cool to see us play ISU.

It's actually San Francisco. Right now they have ISU as an 8 seed playing Missouri.

1. We all think we are more talented than what we really are. Howard, Hollowell, and Gordon I wouldn't call exceptional athletes or talented. Hate to say that about Hollowell but his vertical is lower than Watfords. We got out athleticized by Nebraska of all teams so us getting our a$$es handed to us on a regular basis should not come as a surprise in the B1G. The one athlete we have Hanner, is utiilized in a Sloan type pick roll so hard to see his. He should be performing like Mbakwe from Minnesota but is totally underutilized. Same for Jurkin. All of these athletic African center all over college basketball and ours can't beat out a walk on. Why not let him play, camp out underneath, block some shots, rebound, and dunk. If he cannot do any of these what is he doing here. Just another waste of a project center that never ever contributes. In year six don't you think its time ne of these players could look good out of his warm ups?
2. When a team continues to hit threes you may want to start contesting these. Too many easy outsides shots for Nebraska without any resemblance of defense cost us big time. How many open looks do you give Pitchford before you make him beat you to the basket? Granted, no one would help out as we have no concept of helpside d. We're too busy staring at our man like we have never been coached at it. Just the absolute basics of basketball this team lacks. Combine that with incompetent coaching and a young team that can't bail out the coach and you have Indiana basketball 2013-14.
The reason you don't see Hanner more is because of his defense. Once he gains the knowledge on when to leave his man to help and when to stay put he will play. Until that time, he is such a liability on the defensive end. All you have to do is watch him. Seems lost 90% of the time.

We had some hustle moments but Nebraska played as if they were on their own floor, hustled more, and shot better.

Hoosiers had FOUR empty offensive trips when it was tied at 52-52 and we could just not capture any momentum and frankly are tentative at the end of the games with this one no exception.

Have you seen anything from Jurkin to make you think he could do anything on the floor? Maybe there is something I am missing, but in the small sample size he was bad out there, and that is an understatement. I'd prefer we didn't take a chance on someone being better in a much larger sample size when they've done nothing to earn it on the court, like you are suggesting, just for the sake of trying.

I really believe if Jurkin could have helped us during the B1G season, he would have been utilized. His physical limitations due to an apparent chronic lower leg injury makes me think he will not be on the team next season.

Agree 100% here.  Coach Crean and staff see the team in practice every day.  I'm sure if he thought Jurkin could contribute and help this team win then he would play him.  At the end of the day, whether fans want to admit it or not, Coach Crean is doing EVERYTHING in his power to try and win these games.  That's his #1 goal.

We as fans might not always agree with his moves, but he's making those moves because he feels based on all the knowledge he has of this team that it is best move to win the game.  End of discussion.

to think about what this collective group of talent could have achieved with someone who is a good X's and O's coach is so terribly depressing

Yogi and Noah on the same freaking team and we're near the bottom of the conference? That shouldn't even be possible. Players the likes of Noah and Yogi should be able to carry teams deep into the NCAA Tournament on their talent alone

I legitimately hate Tom Crean and Kenny Johnson

The more I watch Crean, the more I think he makes decisions the same way Joe Girardi does.  Look at his binder (or note cards), and what Binder says goes regardless of game situation.

Eh, I just don't see anything that he would have brought to the table. I guess when Hanner was suspended we could have given him a shot, even if it was just another 5 fouls being out there. I mean there has to be a reason besides just health reasons that would prevent him from being on the court. I was high on Jurkin when he committed, this has just been disappointing with him not even being able to get in the gams

He had a red binder out last night as a matter of fact
