Jeremy Hollowell Trending

Recommended Posts

With the frustrating loss, this really wasn't discussed much. How impressed were you guys with JH's play vs Minnesota. That was the most inspired play I've ever seen from him dating back to high school and AAU.

IF JH can provide that level of effort and tenacity, we are going to be in good shape for this end of season run we need to go on. I'm very happy to see JH play so well and I think many on the board need congratulate that effort as well.

We are quick to point fingers, let's make sure we do our team justice and reward the kind of effort we want to see from our Hoosiers.

So what do you think? Is JH trending up or was that a fluke?

I think he is trending up but I'd like to see him get more minutes before I can be completely sure. I hope he is finally coming into it.

I'm curious what all the people that said he should transfer earlier this season think right now. Feel the same or reconsidering?

I would guess quite a few would feel different. I felt he was probably going to transfer (I didn't want him to) but now that I saw that fight and effort I'm hoping I was wrong before. Crean will play him if he keeps that kind of hustle going. Hope it happens.

I'm hoping that for his own sake Jeremy has turned the corner and has began the journey to realize his full potential. I'm not sure he's there yet but his recent play is encouraging. Too many people kicking a kid when he's down, I hope he shows them all.

Yeah, I think he deserved more than what he got at Minnesota.  On the flip side I thought he was getting more than he should of early in the year.  Hopefully, we start going with the hot hand when its obvious the guy he is replacing is a step slow for whatever reason that night.

CTC seems to be slow to make changes. I'm not sure what his philosophy is on that. I'm sure he has one. Probably wants to give it time to play out sort of thing...  I'll give an example though that might surprise a few. I sometimes see posters criticizing coach for not calling time outs soon enough. Our dear beloved Bob Knight was infamous for refusing to call a time out when there was a tv timeout waiting. I don't know how many times teams went on runs against us but he would not call a time out to stop the bleeding. Yeah, the HOFer did the same thing CTC does. He did however pull players for poor play much quicker than CTC. Nobody is perfect.

I do t think fans would be that upset if this were Coach Crean's technique either. The problem is there doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to his timeouts or lack there of. Just seems like too many times in his IU tenure teams have gone on CRITICAL runs where our guys look deflated and could use a timeout to regroup. Just doesn't happen.

Well, I'm not about to say that TC is anywhere near RMK for in game coaching. He is light years ahead of RMK on treating other people well and representing the university in a good light.  Bob Knight could out coach pretty much anyone. He did however have major issues in other areas.

I strongly dislike JH's play.... I wouldn't say I ever want a kid to transfer but I was very happy as his pine time increased.... However at Minni I finally saw something in him that I have heard ppl say all the time... he showed some pride... he beat his chest, he showed he cared what was going on around him..... I actually was hoping he would get in at the end of the game (which I have NEVER said about him before)... I wanted him to replace Gordon so bad!!!!

I really hope it "Clicked" and this is a sign of JH to come....

I saw Jeremy's play, especially in the first half, as a positive for himself and the team. Both needed to see him come in and make something good happen. As I recall, he had several contributions but the one that stood out to me was when he went hard to the basket, scored, and got fouled. The camera caught his teammates giving him some fives, but I noticed the look on his face. He almost smiled. He has had a look of frustration on his face the entire season. Success feels good. He needs to be assertive and physical. Let's see what he brings against Penn State.

I think Jeremy is as talented as any but two others on this team, and I hope he continues to improve and play well. Crean may have expected too much too early so his struggles relate to this. My example is his handling of the ball early in the year when he was not ready for it. Coach forcing him into a role of back up point guard because of his decision to run off option #2 clearly cannot be blamed on Hollowell. You put your players in a position to succeed and this is where Crean has failed miserably as it relates to Hollowell and many others on our team. Making Yogi juke for most of his field goal attempts and few set plays for him and Noah are other examples. You play to your teams strengths which change every year vs. running the three man weave from day one with little to limited sucess not counting last year. Personnel decides how you want to play unless you are John Wooden where you reload with similar blue chip players. Look at 1981 Isiah Thomas and Mr. Motion Bobby Knight. Great coaches teach a philosophy but also understand winning is the ultimate goal.

I dunno. I'm on the need to see him on the floor a little more to be able to tell

I do know that if he does start playing well, it could be the difference in a lot of games down the stretch.

Hollowell should be so much better than he is, but he just wasn't "ready" this season. I think Crean's expectations were bloated after seeing the roster, but fair.

Exactly who did Crean run off?

Remy Abell who was a nice contibutor last year and our only option at point following Yogi. It was my understanding he wanted to come back but was not invited. If you noticed when Yogi was subbed with the lead against Minn they made their big run. We do not have a decent back up point now but did last year. Who's that on?
My question to you. You say Hollowell should be so much better and he wasn't ready. Could that be because hehas not been used properly based on his strengths now? I agree he hasn't played to his potential but I surmise a lot of it is how he has been used. And that also is on Crean.

In my opinion Stan Robinson is, and will continue to be a better option at backup point guard than Remy Abell.

It's been said ad nauseum on forums that Remy broke some rules that resulted in his departure. Despite that coach and him are still on very good terms. iirc correctly Remy showed up at that clinic they have back in the fall. He's tweeted about his love for IU since leaving. He knows he messed up and he took it like a man and has moved on.

I haven't seen you here before but I think I've seen you on a forum or two where I know it has been discussed. I realize you might not have seen it before but it's old news and it is not something you can blame on coach.
