It's worth a half a season risk now. Probably even before the other 2 got popped again. Not much left at this point.

I am probably in the minority, but until it would be determined that he would spend at LEAST one full year at IU; I don't want him.  I wouldn't care if we had 12 available scholarships.  I would not give one to someone that would not be here a full year.

The half season and talent  are not what scare me----it's the risk of baggage and issues. I trust the staff to work through that but it's another one where he needs to be fully "aired" through the clearing house before we say "yes". No denying he could help the team.

I agree he is a program changer----I just don't want that change to be more sanctions in exchange for a half season of service.  If Coach does his due diligence and is comfortable---then I will get on board.

 

Maybe after a thorough vetting Crean calls Thon into his office and hands him a LOI and a pen and in the words of Clint Eastwood Crean says---"Go ahead Thon---Maker my day"!  :rtfm:

Yesterday I read that an Australian Pro Team has inquired about his interest. Ed Smith said that it was not an option and that Thon is still preparing to play at a US University. List was unchanged. this is all I've heard recently.

I would take him if we had an open scholarship.  If we treat him well, we might get his brother to come.  People are expecting him to be a post player, but I have heard that isn't where he would play.  He was described as a 3.  At 7', he would be pretty impressive.  He fits in well with Crean's system of using a post, 3 guards, and a stretch 3 instead of the typical 4.  He would fit in well if he were available in August.  I would give him a chance .  Imagine if he came back to play a full year.

It would be so weird seeing a 6-10" at center and a taller guy on the side.  Would be a really tough combination to beat!  Thon would be a nightmare of a mismatch (in size) for many opposing teams.
