Personal IU question for everyone?

Recommended Posts

I responded earlier on a post saying how Michigan was one of my most hated schools. Saying that all the Michigan fans up here claim that being the runner-up in the national championship is more impressive than winning the B1G outright. They also believe that Michigan had a better year. What are your thoughts on this?

As an IU fan of course I'm going to say winning the B1G title outright.  To be honest about it, if the tables were turned I'd be saying what they are.  I am sure their tune would change too.

However, here is my argument for the B1G championship being more impressive.  The B1G season is a grueling 18 games in the best basketball conference going that tests you over the course of three months and not just three weeks.  To win it you  have to be consistent night in and night out, not just get hot at the right time in March.

Which IU team was better last year's or the team that lost to Maryland in the championship game?

I love cbb 100's of times more than I do the NBA, but you are more likely to get a truer champion in that system where you have series vs. a one-and-done scenario.  Think about all that comes to play in March Madness that can cause you trouble:

match-up problems - "hello Syracuse"

luck - "welcome to the west Wichita St., the crappiest bracket ever home of the crappiest one seed ever"

The list could go on.

Having said all of that, I'd kill to make a run that deep in March again soon.

I think most would prefer a national championship appearance, but I'd hate being runner-up. To get so close and come up short would suck in my opinion. That said, runner-up over B1G regular season title any day of the week.

This may not be a popular opinion, but I would trade the B1G title for a national championship appearance every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

As would I

Edit:  Off the top of my head I didn't know IU's last bigten championship was in '93, but I sure as heck knew when we last played for the National Title!

Just on paper the runner-up beats the outright title. However, Indiana had the better team and better overall season. Happy to have won the Big Ten outright. That's hard as hell, especially now in the best conference in the nation. Hopefully we'll be making our appearance in a NCAA Championship game soon and when we do, we'll win it!

I disagree with NC runner up is better than outright B1G championship. Whether you are the runner up or worst team in college either way you still didn't win it all so while we didn't win it all I'll take the B1G over having absolutely nothing like michigan.

IU had the better year and better team by far. Michigan got hot late and didn't run into Syracuse until they were a little run down. I'll still take the Big Ten title outright over runner up. Best conference in the country and we won that outright. That game vs michigan was one for the ages. Wouldn't trade it for a runner up spot! We'll get to the national title game here soon. Give it time

We were the #1 team for so long we had a chance to win the whole thing and we didn't come close but you have to give Michigan and Trey Burke credit for getting there and saying how we are toughest conference but as everyone else said we'll take the outright title.

For me personally I would choose runner up. Conf title is an outstanding achievement but finishing runner up meant that you were right there and were 1 win away from a title.

Not everyone else said they'd take the outright title.

If someone asked if I'd trade a conference title for a national title appearance, I'd ask them where to sign.
