We had this discussion last year, i.e. IU needs a few solid recruits to turn this ship around. Z was one such recruit. A Ciezki clone would also do the trick. Caffey & Makalusky are in the right direction. We need Nyemchek to turn out to be a Larry Bird reincarnation (like her coach says), and have Zoe snag 10 rebounds a game . . . and we are there.

It's a slow process. Also, a tough process, unless you are UConn, South Carolina, LSU  and can "stockpile".

CTM has not been a "high charisma" recruiter, but maybe Colsten Thompson solves that "problem". Got to get back to the point where we can regularly beat up Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue (of course), Michigan State, etc.

IUWBB used to be a beacon on light and winning while IUBB suffered endlessly in defeat.  Now they are mere equals, both underperforming expectations.  Both with lots of work to do.  Both with uncertain near futures.   You can’t win at everything and Football reigns supreme.

This football season has been overwhelming joy and I’m thankful for it.

As far as basketball goes, welp, we’ll see.

When the gals went there it was a tough road W with a newly formed team. Pretty much everyone was then impressed. Now laugh at a road W with hindsight. Ok

No I wasn’t that impressed.

Purdue shouldn't be a problem to beat for IU this yr. Their situation makes IU look like awesome. People just need patience and not make grand program declarations when a bad hire was made that has since been corrected in your lead recruiter. It just takes a minute to dig out of a hole that was self created.

Hole never should have been created, but since it has, it takes time to see if it works and I think it well could. People don't realize how bad the five teams at the league are compared to IU and team has six games against them. That should be 4-5 wins minimum and then 1-2 more they steal.

While 6-12 and 16-14 is not ideal, its not a death to the program and very similar to Moren's first yr before taking off. Reinforcements are coming and I think the body of work will lead to decent portal additions. Recruits look at the whole picture. Not one bad year that has been created and is on way to being corrected.

These stadiums being less full after a 20-13 tourney season and a couple bad losses, proves my point that we have one of the most fair weather fan bases in the country. Its not everyone and some are very loyal. However, a higher percentage than most (including a few on this board), are much more willing to run away at first sign of trouble than is typical in a normal fan base.

I am amongst the first to be critical when things are clearly an issue. If Coach Sy was still employed I would be at front of line of criticism. However, I also have the capacity to see the whole situation and not make declarations at first sign of trouble and try to identify the issue as a whole.

Yes, IU Ladies should beat PU but to say PU shouldn’t be a problem is another laughable statement.

At home it wont be. Road game will be close and could go either way but PU is a dumpster fire. We have had close games at Mackey even with some of the good teams.

My point is IU Ladies are vulnerable this year…. And would be the year for Purdue to get IU Ladies.

This probably sums it up.  Top tier players don’t want to play for her for whatever reason…even those on her USA National teams.  Colsten might recruit well here, but eventually will get a bigger gig if it holds up.

She makes no bones about requiring hard work and with an emphasis on team. Past players have commented you need to be ready to work hard at IU and some players aren’t a good fit for that. Some top players want assurances of minutes and freedom to play their game.

I doubt any coach works their players harder and is more demanding than Gino and look at what he gets year in and year out.

Lot of excuses. Beaumont is a decent role player. Would have helped last years team. Who will think about scoring once Shay is gone? Even with Z in the lineup, Z wasn’t scoring very much against cupcakes. Caffey will be a solid player year 3 or so. Maya contributes nothing. A shot put two handed push shot that mid majors don’t guard and has made a couple. 37 minutes 0 points last game against a big ten opponent. Slow gangly and weak. Why doesn’t Jerni get a shot in a game against a real opponent? Or even spreen? If wiseman, maya, and apparently spreen who never gets a shot aren’t good enough to see the floor or score what’s the point in recruiting Indiana to begin with
