Unfortunately it’s just all $

Yeah, and it's sort of weird but the fact that the system is pretty open now doesn't make it feel better. Back in the day when you knew the Fab 5 or the Flyin' Illini were bought it still felt, I don't know, more innocent, almost quaint, than straight up free agency feels now. This is the reality now so fine, but I used to enjoy being able to rationalize the delusion that kids really wanted to play for the front of the shirt. Makes the Trent Sisley's of the world that much cooler.

Couple of things here: 1) We’ve heard multiple times that Allmond has a guy there on staff at OSU that he’s tight with. But if you look at the staff, unless I just missed something or didn’t look far enough down staff, I’d love to know who it is. T

James Miller is the guy per Raby.

Yea, the majority (good percentage) of 5 stars have operated like this forever.  Some 4 stars.  It was trickling down (Brian Bowen was the low end 5 star, high end 4 star that helped end Pitino Louisville career for 100k).  Certain recruitments were obvious if you follow them.  Now its all of the recruitments at the power 5 level no matter the kids ranking.

Can't really play the sour grapes card.  Everyone knows how it works.  Gather your NIL pot, make it as large as you can, and recruit the type of kids you can win with where winning is the most or next most important thing.

I hope we get AT.  Not holding my breath on the Centers.  We will be heavy in the portal again, which we probably needed to be anyway if we want a team that will win right away.  Gonna have to pony up some big money in the portal though.  Hopefully something will happen to make us competitive in that arena.

The farthest east the guy has ever coached is Mississippi St. It certainly doesn't look like some years in the making relationship. So the dude just made it happen. Good for him.

Just on the court things it doesn't make sense to pick OK St but now it is the highest bidder wins. Someone said it could be around 2 mil which if accurate is insane for a player ranked outside the top 10.

At Ok St he will not be on national TV very much at all where at IU he will be on TV every game. I know we haven't been that relevant lately but we are still more of a national brand than Ok St is or will ever be. The games I  have been seen I see a half empty arena with not much of an environment. When I was younger it was a pretty good program and had a really good home court advantage but not today.

I think I have a good idea for a new show on ESPN. It is the recruiting auction and just have all the players up on stage and have every coach there doing the bidding. That could be entertaining

It's unclear whether Allmond did go after the biggest bag. OK St's offer was probably good enough to compete with Maryland, though not greater. Relationships with Ok St staff won out over Maryland, not money. But even if it did, I'm surprised that so many on here think people don't usually go to the place offering them the most money.

We seemed to be in a great spot at the time of the PAM announcement.  That held for a while.  We lost grip in whatever way we lost grip.  Financially or otherwise.  This staff will need to figure things out on the fly.  Not going to end up being as big of a freshman class as they envisioned.
