Indiana's Myles Rice on the final possession:  "I think we were trying to run a play, but then the substitutions kind of got everybody confused a little bit, trying to put everybody in their right spots. Then we didn't have a timeout, so we were trying to fix everything on the fly a little bit in such a heated moment."

He didn't know what they were trying to do?

One would have thought that the end-of-game inbounds scenario would have come up in practice at some point since October... what do they work on during practice?

Feels like something a fifth year guy getting a good chunk of NIL would say to deflect blame from his coach. Kind of like the true fans comment at senior night last year. Maybe not. But this game came down to coaching and it was pretty obvious we weren’t managed well. Nice of Leal to try and take the heat. IMO.

I have to agree that a lot about all of this just flat stinks... Woodson is spouting the same platitudes and empty excuses while guys like Leal are busy circling the wagons. I cannot wait for this nightmare to be over.

A lot of coaches do that, especially HOF coaches!  MW is far from being a HOF coach!

That was something Knight did... the players knew what to do, and they had it drilled into their heads during practice - no TO, just go do what you learned to do.

But Might Mike, the Wizard of Broad Ripple, just had to interject himself into the situation... either that OR they never talked about this scenario in practice. Either way, he's a horrible coach who has no clue and should be fired today.

Woodson works on his putting game.

I honestly believe we would have been better off after Maryland made the 3 to just let Miles push it up the floor like he was in the process of doing and try to get the bucket or the foul instead of calling a TO. Just my opinion.

Absolutely. He was going downhill at full speed, in a loud building after a questionable no-call went against the home team on the other end. If we don't call timeout, Rice is very likely getting a foul call at the rim with a couple seconds left.

I agree with your Woodson comments but we don’t know if Leal is “circling the wagons” because he said they were told to foul before the three point shot. Who knows? Maybe they were told that.

One way or the other it doesn’t  lessen the fact that Woody needs to go.

Knight was who I was eluding to without actually say, well Knight did it that way. Some people hate when we draw on examples from the past, so I chose to not mention Knight.  I’m glad you did, it shows me others think the same way.  It’s extremely hard to believe this guy played for him.

Absolutely. He possesses nothing close to Knight's basketball mind or his work ethic. And RMK never turn on the excuse spigot at the post game pressers... The King is more like The Jester. Hopefully he will be the ex-coach before the week is out.

So was today a moral victory? Maybe we can lose by 15 or less friday and get another!

I shudder to think of Friday… Purdue will unseat IU and move into 10th place in all time wins list. Woody, a program legend, will be cheered in a mocking way by the opposing student section. Purdue will win by a large margin. Historically bad night for the program. Failure of leadership got us here.

You know, I did try to put my feelings about Woddy aside and look at this positively. The “fight” WAS better. But, watching the replay, I realized IU had to hit 13 out of 15 shots in the second half, and Miles Rice had to go unconscious from 3 uncharacteristically… just for us to lose this game at home by one. I mean it took a near miracle shooting display just to keep us in it. And we lost. We lose this game by 20 if we don’t get hot, and that’s as unacceptable as the end of game debacle we saw. No matter how gracious I try to be, this is another failure in a long string of them over the last four seasons. Your opinions are your own, but this one is mine.

Now seeing that Goode had to remind Mike to go shake hands. Video proof is out there. When does this madness end….
Also saw somewhere he was the only player along with a few walk ons that came back out for pictures. Class act kid.

Lol. I was joking. I am of the opinion in almost all situations iu basketball should be above moral victory. Anything in assembly hall should be a win. Only moral victory should be playing a top team at their place and coming up short but playing well. In the old days I expected iu to win every game. They didn't but that was OK because they were probably going to win the next one. I doubt purdue fans are accepting any losses. We need to get back to that level

Jester is exactly accurate!  I hope he’s gone tomorrow.  This team has talent and they could possibly turn this season around with a change.  But if they stay the status quo because of the optics, we will miss the tournament again.
