I was at the game last night, close to the floor and the guys behind were a little lubed up and getting on the refs most of the second half, officiating wasn't the best in their defense.  Any way, at some point Anderson was right in front of us with his back to us and one guy made a comment referring to Anderson as Valentine, and Anderson put both index fingers to his temples and just shook his head, never turned around.  I found it pretty hilarious.

I'm in favor of Leal getting minutes in front of Tucker.  Sure, Tucker likely has a higher ceiling, but right now Leal is a better all-around player and is better able to contribute to IU winning now.  Big Ten season is here.  You have to play the guys that will help us win now.  I don't see Tucker surpassing Leal's all-around game this year. Play the experienced guy who knows defensive positioning and who is willing to do the little things.  We have enough scorers. There will be plenty of minutes for Tucker next year.

Tucker hits an okay percentage of fifteen to eighteen foot jumpers.  The problem is that 35 to 40% is a decent percent on those shots.  It's not a good shot to take.  He has to be taught that those aren't good shots.  If a team is taking a lot of those shots they will lose.

If those shots were a good open shot you should hit at least 50% of those shots. The problem is that the shots Tucker takes aren't good shots

If only basketball teams had someone (or multiple people) in charge who could teach him something like that. Oh well, I guess he'll just have to figure it out himself

They need to Study the Illinois shot chart from its thrashing of Oregon at Oregon.

Well they use to when coaches actually tried to get open looks for their shooters. Watching tbe OSU and MSU I just found it hard to watch the offenses. It is to much dribbling and you just don't see much player and ball movement. The shot selection is so bad as well.

The Ballo, Mgbako and 3 guard stuff looked sustainable. I looked out there once and even saw 3 guards, Tucker and Ballo.

Even open fifteen to eighteen footers shouldn't be a priority.  Shots at the rim and open threes are the shots you want.  

Current D1 shooting percentages:

shots at the rim (within 4.5 feet):  teams are shooting 63%.  IU is at 71%.

Shots in the paint but not within 4.5 feet:  teams are shooting 41%.  IU is also at 41%.

Shots outside the paint but inside the arc:  teams are shooting 36%.  IU is at 41%.

Three point corner shots:  teams are shooting 35%.  IU is at 32%.

Three point above the break shots:  teams are shooting 33%.  IU is at 32%.

The overall shooting percentages for IU aren't bad but the distribution is.  Over 16% of IU's shots are coming inside the arc but outside the pain -- the shot that will produce the fewest points based on shot expectation.  As a whole, the NCAA is taking only 11% of their shots there....so in essence, IU has taken those shots at a rate 50% higher than expected.

Yea, it's 100% coaching. Tucker takes those shots because the staff is not telling him they are bad shots. Even going back to Hood-Schifino - JHS had some big games, but he also had a habit of barfing up contested 17 footers.
