steubenhoosier Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 This morning, on Sirius NFl Network, a guy who I respect deeply, Bill Polian was discussing the future landscape of college football and was part of a conversation about whether Belichick could make it as a college coach. Polian evidently has been a part of these discussions and said that they are set to go into place next June. In summary… - There will be a salary cap for each team of somewhere between $13-15 million a year, which is less than what some programs are currently paying. I think this is why you are seeing programs like Stanford hiring a General Manager. - There will also be NIL, but it will absolutely require athletes to work for their stipends, v the sham pay to play that exists now. - The portal period will be narrowed significantly and there will be an independent board to oversee the process and rule on situations when necessary. These were the major points he brought up on a show that is supposed to be geared towards the NFL. May be more, and certainly is just the first step to try to get this under some semblance of control. Jeff Flabjohns 1 Quote

A salary cap is the dumbest idea they could possibly come up with. It will take a nanosecond for 90% of the SEC to exceed the cap. Who is going to enforce the cap? The NCAA? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Work for their stipends? Who in the world is going to gauge the market value of the players “work”? $ 13,000,000 cap when OSU is estimated to pay 20mm? I’m sure they will roll that back quickly. LOL. That being said…I’m 100% in favor of tightening up portal rules including how many times a player can move without sitting out. The timing in place now also doesn’t make sense. Why are playoff coaches tied up with the portal now? The window should open after the playoffs are over. WayneFleekHoosier and cybergates 1 1 Quote
BtownStrength Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Yeah as bad as it is, the free for all payment system is the only way we can compete close to even. Let's pay these lads. F the salary cap cybergates 1 Quote
