Fun fact on Trey Galloway: he is #4 nationally in assist rate on Kenpom right now. 9 assists in 17 minutes opening night, 8 assists in 18 minutes tonight.
The three guys ahead are small school guys who have only played one game, so he'll probably be #1 in a few days.

How long will we have to wait for trey to be a starter this year? It's clear we move the ball far better when he is on the floor.

Seeing the posts on Twitter about the 1st half, sounds like classic Indiana Men’s basketball under Mike Woodson. 
 

Good for them for turning it around, but we’ve seen the disappointing start vs mid majors for several years now.

Don’t like how they played - were coached in the first half, awful, but — at end of the first posted second half plan should be ti cut TO’s in half and attack—

that’s what happened they cut TO’s to 4 and attacked and beat the game line. 
 

Not really concerned by the slow start generally. Coaching was bad but the team woke up — that’s often college ball. Same guys played really well against UT. We’ll see how they do next game

Reneau, Ballo, and Hatton played 58 combined minutes.  That would mean that there was 22 minutes where MM or someone else was playing the 4.  That would be a positive in that we are seeing multiple looks including a smaller quicker lineup.

That also aligns with the first game where they combined for 59 minutes.

Slow starts and deep bench sub patterns are a woody staple and it’s annoying to see those things reemerge with the talent on this team.  I get experimenting around with lineups, but not at the expense of getting our core guys reps. Guys who need reps together by looks of it because some low major scrubs took it to them for the first twenty minutes. 
 

Personally I don’t take much from beating up on the little sisters of the poor. Not in the NIL  era where that entire team likely had less of a payroll than what we’re paying Galloway.

The talent discrepancies between an Eastern Il level team/league and IU were just as great prior to NIL as they are now. 

Ugly first half but first 30+ win in nearly two years (and we played plenty of duds in those two prior years).

That’s certainly fair. Last year’s team was bad, and the early season struggles proved to be anything but a fluke. So for those looking for assurances that we won’t have a repeat of last year, I get it.  
 

I have sort of taken it as a given that we’re better than last year just based on talent alone and kind of have an eye on other things. But honestly, given IU basketball’s last few decades maybe I shouldn’t take anything for granted.

Haven't read whole thread and had to watch on YT later yesterday. I'm sure Carlyle is being crapped on for his offense but he's a very good on ball defender.

Agree, and while I tend to think at this point that Gallo, also a strong defender/on-ball defender and imo a better offensive player, could be more effective than Carlyle in the starting unit, because Gallo's our primary facilitator off the bench that move is starting to make better sense to me.

Absolutely. Nice little breakdown here from Ant on Carlyle’s defensive awareness. Not worried about his offense in any way. Kid could drop 20 Saturday. Meanwhile his defense has been fantastic and he competes his a$$ off.
