Per The Daily Hoosier:

”This year, the skill competitions are gone, and the men’s and women’s teams won’t share the court. The IU women’s team will start Hoosier Hysteria with team introductions, a message to the crowd from Moren, and then two quarters of an intrasquad scrimmage. The men’s team will do the same thing after the women’s scrimmage is done — introductions, head coach Mike Woodson addressing the crowd, and then a half-long scrimmage.

“We are excited to rollout this new format of Hoosier Hysteria,” IU head men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson said in the press release. “Getting our team in front of Hoosier Nation has always been a priority for this ballclub. The scrimmage will be the first chance for our fans to get a look at our new players and most importantly will give our guys a taste of playing competitive basketball in front of the most passionate fans in the game.”

Glad to see the scrimmage is back. I was talking to a buddy in the athletic department a few weeks ago and Woodson was fighting this tooth and nail. Woodson had Mike Epps and Amp Harris in his ear telling him that he needed to have a big time rapper come in to perform for the crowd and recruits. But the athletic department didn't want to spend money on that. Glad to see they won out.

I think that the big-time music act in past years has been a very good idea for high school recruits. But NIL and portal recruiting has clearly changed all of that and so that effect is all but eliminated.

So it comes down to - a music act is more excellent for the students, and a scrimmage is more excellent for alumni and oldsters.

So for me? Put the music act in the IU Auditorium and let the scrimmage carry the event.

Personally, I like seeing things differ year by year. I want to see the team scrimmage -- the early look at how players look, who's healthy, what lineups look like / who is playing with whom -- but it's also good to see HH a hyped event, and it's very much part of the picture that IU needs to compete with the other big programs, see UK etc. running their pre-season midnight madness events.

Thank you. Wonder how many subscriptions I’ll need this year to watch every game lol

1 or 2. HH, the Marian exhibition and I think the Eastern Illinois game are the only ones on there.

Sweet. I can live with Peacock and B10+ as long as they don’t start adding Amazon, Apple TV, Hulu, etc. Lol

The girls are on a lot if you feel like keeping it through the season.

Wasn't so long ago that HH / Midnight Madness threads were long and hopping. Another NIL effect I guess that HH seems to be getting so little attention. Looking forward to the scrimmage and seeing how guys like Jakai look, and who's running with who. Would be nice to see some early freedom from the arc as well.

It’s always a good time with family. One of my favorite basketball days of the year.    Sad we missed it this year but we are driving back from family vacation.
