I do think if he played in a system predicated on spacing with actual competent guards, he'd hit a good volume of perimeter shots with efficiency to boot, his shot looks pure almost every time it leaves his hand. But that's never going to fix his athleticism. He's undraftable in the 1st round given his lack of athleticism. That isn't changing by sticking around in college another year.

If I am his parent I would want to do what is best for his future. If that is turning pro fine but I don't see him getting drafted. I wouldn't want him to go the G league route because that is a hard journey. I think it would be best for him to come back and work on his game to improve his draft stock

Does he lack athleticism or is he just playing extremely timid (not that he is a jump out of the gym guy)?  Is the game just too fast for him right now?  Does another year or two get him more comfortable?

Mgbako's strength appears to be perimeter shooting.  I'm not sure Woodson's offense we've seen the last 3 years will do anything to showcase Mgbako's skills for the next level.  I'd love for the kid to stay.  I'm just not sure another year playing in our current system will help get him to the next level.  Maybe he gets a big NIL number to stay.  That would be the only reason that I would see him coming back.

I think he needs to build some upper body strength to play through contact and some lower body strength to explode off the ground more. Which I think Cliff can help with.

But that assumes the coach recognizes he screwed up and doesn't repeat the same mistakes in his recruiting.  Woody almost conveys "I'm the smartest man in the room" and I really wonder if he truly realizes how poorly his roster is constructed.

Sure he could use a little bit more strength, but he gets blown by on the perimeter way too much (because he can’t move laterally) and he gets destroyed at the rim because he can’t beat his defender off the dribble.. He’s shooting 51% at the rim this year. That’s honestly embarrassing for somebody 6’8. Reneau and Walker both shoot 70% at the rim at similar heights. 6’4 Galloway is shooting 60+%.

And if this season ends with a better vibe I could easily see Woody being able to convince him (with help of his NBA friends), TJD, heck even Ware, give yourself one more year and you are set. 

What would be considered a better vibe finishing 6-2?

But they have 2-3 years on the kid.  Experience sometimes does wonders.

I’m sure MM could develop into a nice collegiate player if he sticks around, but his prospective professional aspirations are always going to be limited because he lacks raw athleticism. That’s not going to change coming back to IU or transferring to a different school. Another year in a college weight room would definitely help him but he’s likely never going to be a first round draft pick.

Do you remember Ben Allen? 6'10" and couldn't dunk. Guy lived on the 3 point line.
