(2024) - PG Travis Perry to Kentucky

Perry's season came to an end last night in a 60-56 loss to George Rogers Clark.  All 5 GRC starters finished in double figures and the team was 12-24 on 3s.  And its defense held Perry to 19 pts.  Lyon County finished 31-6 and returns 4 of its starting 5 next season.

Perry had a tough shooting night just 7-19 FG and 4-13 on 3s.  He did add 3 assists and 4 steals.

GRC is a pretty good team. Took out Reed Sheppard yesterday.

Perry's shooting stats for his last 2 games haven't been posted to the KHSAA website and at this point don't know that they will be.  But with 35 games of data the last 2 games wouldn't change the numbers appreciably.

  • 31.7 ppg
  • 6.2 rpg
  • 52% FG
  • 45% on 3s
  • 88% FT

“I talk to them all the time. They are probably the school that reaches out to me the most – Coach Walsh, Hulls, Howard, all of those guys, Coach Woodson – they are reaching out all the time. So, yeah, I’ll probably end up taking a visit up there, but I’m just focusing on AAU right now.”

I like Perry mucho. Looks like a high-level player and winner. Who is the last IU player from south of the river? Remy Abell?

Seems like they flirt with us, but always end up at pUKe or Loserville.

I agree. He's pretty high on Purdue's wish list also. I would really hate to see him end up there.

Yeah, I don't care what Perry is ranked he is the guard I want from 2024.  Perry, Bidunga (as the big), McNeely on the wing.  Call it a day for me.

Although with our plethora of 2024 offers and our anticipated turnover in 2024 i'll be curious how we prioritize HS vs transfers.  2024 recruiting is going to be tough to read.  Is Ware one and done.  Does Malik make the jump.  If we get Mgbako, is he one and done?  X, Leal final years.

Recruiting is something else.

I keep seeing Perry's name thrown around after the Fland miss. Is Perry better than a sophomore Cupps? It seems like going the portal route for a PG would be the better option but I don't know which is why I'm asking.

I don't know if he'd even be a realistic option at this point. Probably not.

The staff really focused on some high end talent and in doing so, some targets such as Perry saw the IU interest lessen while other schools ramped up their recruitment.  Not a criticism of our staff but that's how they approached the '24 recruiting cycle.  Unless Perry (strictly as an example) really wants to come to IU, hard for me to believe we can now jump back into his recruitment with both feet and expect him to have the same degree of enthusiasm for us that he may have once had.  To me, we're looking to the portal next spring or a re-class if a desired target should make that decision.
