If she had some eligibility left, Tyra Buss should start against Wisky and show Davison how the game is supposed to be played.

I am sorry but Trey shouldn't be starting on a good team.  He is a very good role player and is better suited to come off the bench.

Elite teams aren’t playing the Trey Galloway’s of college basketball 30+ mpg. He’s not even a bad player but he’s not in the echelon you’re putting him in.

Nothing wrong being a good bench player and who knows their roles.  To me if he was a knock down shooter then he could start but his shooting is what limits his play.

To me I would compare Galloway to a Steve Eyl from the 87 team.  He was very good off the bench bit was very limited on the offensive end.  He provided a good spark off the bench with his defense and ball handling.  Didn't score much but provided good minutes on a championship team.  When he started the next year he just wasn't as reliable than he was on the bench.

I honestly don’t know.  I do know we are a better team with him on the floor.  It’s easy to point out like so many do on here that he can’t shoot.  He brings so many intangibles that can’t be measured that I don’t know where to start.  
 

Will his shooting improve?  Idk, but I have reason to believe it will.  Why?  Because he has improved his form from last year.  That shows me the kid is willing to put in the work.   We have a so called All American on the team that talks a lot about developing his game but we have seen zero reason to believe it.  We have seen it with Gallo.  I’m too young to have seen the Dane Fife years but I’m told Dane couldn’t shoot a lick his first few years but he worked on it and was a threat as an upperclassman.  Who is to say Gallo won’t find a similar path.  Heck, even if he doesn’t he is still a fine player.

Let’s see what he does tomorrow.  He’s already shut down the best guard in the league for a half and caused him so much problems that he got frustrated and picked up a flagrant.  I’m not saying he’s going to shut down Johnny Davis but he is going to earn everything he gets against Gallo and my bet is that he doesn’t go off and that Gallo makes it difficult for him.

So many like to just throw out stats and shooting percentages so let me try one. Gallo is not a point guard but he has been forced to play some with Rob out.  He played the point against MSU some and they like to pressure and pick up full court at times.  Gallo had zero turnovers with 3 assists and maybe a steal or two mixed in.  Some guys know how to play and some don’t.  This kid knows how to play.  He needs to continue to start and play close to 30 every night.

We are better with him in the floor.  I agree.  But that’s not a high bar.  We aren’t anywhere close to as good as we need to be.  As far as his form improving?  Nope. He’s got some weird shoulder hitch I’ve never seen before. It’s terrible.  
 

all that said, I like him better than Kopp and Stewart so for this years team I’m mostly happy with him getting minutes. 

And all that said, he’s the guard version of Josh McRoberts on this team.

He is. You are right. But it’s his energy, knowledge, movement, defense that are his strengths like McRoberts, but Gallo is a great athlete. Like I say, its mostly his shooting. He offers a lot. But like McRoberts teams can kinda ignore him on the offensive end.

The best team in the league has a player for them that is playing over 30 minutes and shooting less than 30% from the floor.  He’s a senior and he impacts winning.  He is not their best player but I bet everyone on that team would say he is their most valuable.  Their record would not be what it is without this kid.

That’s kind of how I see Gallo.  I don’t care if we are 15-15 or 25-5.  Gallo should be seeing close to 30 minutes a night.

Teams can ignore him from deep but he has a killer floater and he can get to the rim and finish on his drives (he didn’t against MSU but he has shown it).  I guess we disagree that his shooting will improve.  I think he will get there and I think we have a staff that will push him and help him get there.

I think what people are saying if Galloway is starting that probably means we won't be great as a team.  We are not saying Galloway is not important and isn't good but if IU is to be a great team he would be coming off the bench.

I would argue the opposite. Gallo starting and playing close to 30 would be a big reason why we could be great as a team.  I could care less about his stats.  Kid knows how to play the game and his mere presence on the court makes us better as a team.

Even starting, he was still pretty much a role player on the team that next year.  He averaged 17 minutes per game on the championship team and 20 the next year, so not really much of a difference.  The team he was a part time starter on was a 4 seed in the NCAA tournament so that kind of goes against your Galloway/Eyl wouldn't start on a good team.  Galloway/Eyl can start on good teams, just depends on what's around them.  I also wholeheartedly expect that Galloway will be starting next year and I expect him to be a guy who averages in double figures.
