What is the harm of starting Galloway at point? X is a solid backup and Phin has had 4 years here to prove he can contribute and hasn’t.

I don’t even know how the ‘confidence’ narrative with Phinisee started. I’ve heard it so much across the internet that it’s a meme at this point. He hit a few wideee open shots against Minnesota and people acted like some three year hex cast upon him by the evil Archie Miller was finally lifted. It’s not a lack of “confidence.” He just isn’t very good. Lack of confidence explains a cold stretch over a month or two. Not 3+ seasons.

Which is why we are going to be up and down all season.  If you don't enjoy rollercoasters, might want to get off.

When you can predict the ups and downs, because of bad basketball, it’s less of a roller coaster. I’ll be here cheering them on and hoping for the best while calling out bad basketball. I know some won’t like that but they’ll have to live with it.

I don't know, but I do think IU fans have this weird tendency to over-value our players because we're IU, and any player we bring in must be good or they wouldn't be here. I saw a lot of this when Crean was hired. Most of the fanbase was brutally unprepared for how terrible that first year was going to be. I knew people who expected a .500 season or better. They thought we'd just out-hustle and out-smart everyone, with kids who were just so tough and scrappy, because that's Indiana basketball.

 

Our fans just don't seem to realize that an IU jersey isn't Superman's cape and it has no ability to elevate any player's game.

Goes hand in hand with the "effort" complaints I addressed earlier. It's more comforting to think he'll just get his confidence back someday than acknowledge he may not be good enough.

Agree with you on the 'confidence' narrative.  After four years you are where you are.  The difference we have in opinion isn't on Phin, it's on Lander.

Agendas and group think are real. The problem is when they’re so blatantly false. Gotta find something to hype and place blame on the previous staff.

And I also think we have a weird tendency to undervalue players who came in but weren't ranked that high.  I'll never understand what people didn't like about Al Durham.  Kid came in as an out of the top 150 player and really worked on his jump shot and had a nice ability to get to the line.

Honestly I’ve given up on Lander getting any playing time this season. Through six conference games he’s played as many minutes as I have. If he can’t get in the game when Phinisee’s playing as horrible as he did tonight, I doubt he ever will.

I think Woodson should end the Phinsee experiment if he plays like he has the rest of the season and in the off season give someone else a chance. (Portal, recruit) I think Phinsee has had numerous chances. He’s just never getting to that potential we once wanted him at. His Freshmen year I thought wow we have our next big time Guard but now it’s like has a great 1st half against Minnesota and doesn’t hit another 3 for the next 3+ halves he plays.

Justin Smith being one of them.  I do wish that Archie:  #1 knew how to properly motivate him and #2 Smith had accepted what he was -- which was not a perimeter player.  Someone he accepted that when he went to Arkansas.

Don't think anyone will ever forget Smith throwing the F bomb TJD's way when TJD was telling him to go up stronger.

It was a question. I’m happy with some of the wins and individual performances. I’m critical of the adjustments and bad basketball (there is a lot that goes into this.)

I get this. At the same time I feel like we are miles away from even Yogi’s SR year team. That’s wild to think about since 5 years have gone by and they can’t seem to get over the hump to make a NCAA tourney bid.

I predict we will be happier after the NE game, devastated after PU and then irrationally happy after home games vs UM and PSU.

Don’t forget it’s difficult to win on the road in the Big 1.o. No road win is guaranteed, even against a bad Nebrasketball team, for Indiana.
