I went and looked at their recruiting classes so see if I am missing something and those classes have been pretty low.  One 5* and I stopped looking past 2016. Take a look https://247sports.com/college/baylor/Season/2021-Basketball/Commits/

Not really the recruiting classes that would lead you to think anything shady was going on.

Even before he started having success at Baylor, he was voted in a poll of 100 D1 coaches as the dirtiest coach in D1.  I live in the Valpo area and I can tell you that there was always a lot of talk about it here when he was coaching VU and their 'incredible pipeline' to foreign players.

Indiana already knows first hand about his tactics since he sent a text to Hanner Perea's high school coach threatening to have Perea deported if he didn't sign at Baylor.

Some notes from tonight

- This is the least active I’ve seen Archie on the sideline. I’ve never seen him sit down as much as I did tonight. Odd

- He was extremely short in the post game presser. Frustrated, nothing new for coaches after losses but notable as he’s usually more responsive.

I lived in Valpo for a few years but other than saying hey to Homer at the post office I know nothing. I have no idea if he would get a look or even wants it but his success warrants a look. The complaints about are pretty old so maybe he changed. I seem to argue for him a lot but am not locked in on him.

Good interview from AJ with Scott Dolson today
https://www.pscp.tv/w/1gqxvobONoAKB

AJ does a good job with this. I would have been too quick to discuss basketball but he did a great job exploring several areas. He had Dolson so excited when talking about his time as a manager you could see Dolson eager for his turn to talk more.

wonder if he and Dolson have already had "the talk"

Now responsible for fixing it. Not the creation of it.

He will be. Nothing he can do about it now and it will be up to the administration, not him, to decide if IU is willing to pay the buyout. I was a big supporter of Fred Glass but he was out to lunch with this contract. 7 years is fine but give yourself a freakin out

Well, it helps. But it certainly isn’t the end all, be all.

It’s better to have a lot than to have none. I’ve been on both extremes.

My theory is that lack of money can keep you awake at night, but beyond that money doesn’t help all that much.

Agreed.

Think it’s probably Beilein, Matta, or Fife if $ is an issue after you pay a huge buyout. Fife might check more boxes, thought he doesn’t check some significant ones.
Fife pros: youth, recruiting, IU/Knight connection (that doesn’t matter to me but it might to some), probably relatively cheap, no buyout, long service under a successful coach, prior HC experience.

cons: only low-major HC experience, lower name recognition.

He could be a huge success, but there’s some risk. As we’ve discussed, Matta and Beilein seem less risky but I think they have their own risks too.

Fife with an older hand in the next chair (like Martelli at UM) would be a fine start.
