This is 100% fact. Dolson knows this too. It's why he is slowly asking people who they want. IU is not going to pay the buyout to just go hire Dane Fife or someone like that

They can't afford it without a lot of help from outside. If they do, it will be getting a coach that they can pay the same or less. We can't pay this buyout, then go pay Chris Beard's buyout of $3 million and pay him $4 million a year.

This is Dolson's opportunity to make his mark as AD and he's not going to want to screw it up.  He's going to make certain he's got the $$ if there's to be a buyout this year but IMO he's going to be equally certain he's got his next coach "in the bag".  I don't sense any coaching search the next time around.  There may be one announced for public perception, but the next man up will have been pre-determined.  I think IU is still attractive enough that Dolson has been receiving numerous inquiries from the coaching agent fraternity.

It's a tall task, but there are many donors who are probably done with Archie. If not, you're just asking for a highly likely bloodbath next season.

Absolutely.  That was my point.  People are speaking in absolutes about how Miller will be here next year because of the buyout.  Yet they have no idea about what's going on with Dolson, the boosters, and financials.  They're just guessing as is anybody here.

yes, you are correct about that. Also, Scott has a long list of people he can call. Have to remember he was the president of the Alumni association and the foundation I believe.

I know the general sentiment is that he will be back regardless. If we miss the NCAA tournament when it’s being held in our state and even in our own arena, I think he’s gone. I think that will piss off enough rich donors to pull the plug. We have four games left in the regular season. Three of them are winnable games. We suffer another embarrassing loss to Purdue and then miss the tournament and I bet he’s gone.

Correction--Chris Beard already makes $4.575 million annually at Texas Tech.

So it would be a $3 million buyout and $6 million annually.

AND, Chris Beard is divorced with three kids living near Lubbock. And his longtime girlfriend is born and raised in Lubbock, Texas.
