His high school stats were only 38 percent that’s a decent sample size against easier competition

His scout evaluation by the different services is as an above average shooter not an elite shooter yet but with the tools to become one.

So

A) we miss the tourney again
B) we make it as a .500 type club

Does option B really make the fans happy?

Option A will have me enraged and disengaged.

Option B doesn’t do much for me either. IF TJD leaves we don’t project to be better. If TJDs back next season we could be better, but what? Not a great team still.

Archie supposed to be building a top B1G team and a national contender. Just not seeing it.

Yet I keep coming on here and see folks making excuses about how Archie needs time. I'm all for having some patience but there isn't one person on this board that can confidently say this team is making the tourney this year and no one can also confidently say next year will be any better. It would be particularly hard to see improvement if TJD leaves, which is becoming more and more of a probability. Player development just hasn't been there and the lack of impact recruits also has been an issue (yet to recruit a true shooter). No way you can continue to back Archie if he goes four years without a tourney appearance. Just can't happen. We'll see if Option B comes true this year but man the BIG looks like its going to be a gauntlet. Only way i see it is if the guards improve a lot - I'm talking Phinny being a factor again and a consistent Green. Seems like stretch.

This is where things get interesting in viewing things as emotionally invested fans and from people in the industry looking from the outside. You view IU next year with TJD as not a great team. I’ve seen articles written with our incoming class and TJD returning and returning players as a top 15 team next year.

Personally for me regardless of outcome of this years team next years team if everyone returns who is suppose to return as a top 4 team in the B1G.

It’s not about the recruits coming in. It’s about the players on this team getting better. Durham, Phin, Anderson, and Hunter all need to get motive their outside shot. I wouldn’t even say improve mechanics. They need to shoot with the confidence Green shoots with. That alone would probably increase their percentages.

We’re not shot ready when we catch the ball. We’re more looking for the next pass than the shot. That’s indicates the staff wanting to get the ball inside and not letting players shoot. I believe this team with a Roth, Hulls, or Zeisloft would do wonders for the confidence of others.

Top 15 teams have shooters....we still won't unless guys really improve more than they did this last off-season. It's not out of the question at all but there is certainly doubt just based on the development thus far.

I’d be very interested in reading those articles that have us as a top 15 team next year.

Never said he wasn’t but he’s not a kid you can count on to fix our shooting woes in his first year.

I don’t know if he is a kid to count on or not in his first year. I’ve seen too many recruits from other teams that were sub 100 players that have came in and made an impact with their shooting. Only time will tell but I can tell you with his shooting stroke and IU’s need for shooters if puts in the work in the summer I can see him playing more then many will think

What’s Leal hitting as Senior?  He only hit like 38 percent his junior year.  Unless that’s gone up quite a bit hard to classify him a a shooter. He’s more a guy that can shoot.

Sean McDermott shot 34% from 3 his senior year of high school. He’s a career 41% from 3 while at Butler. If you think 38% isn’t a good 3 point percentage I don’t know what to tell you. Especially when he is the focal point of other teams.

And he shot 35% his freshmen year at Butler.

Correct. 35 percent is a good enough percentage. If you have 3 or 4 guys between 35 and 40 you’ll be fine. Leal, Al, and Rob could should all be there. Franklin and Hunter are candidates too. Their forms are good they just need to find the range consistently. They are both freshman that could improve. They might before this season is over. That said shooting could still be a problem but it won’t be because of Leal.

We have 3 guys who are shooting that now. We lose a 40% shooter and likely replace with a 35-38% shooter.

it’s not really gonna fix much
