Well, the NCAA will most assuredly try to vacate our ‘87 NC season so they can say they are tough on cheaters....

Knowing our overzealousness and penchant for self-reporting, we probably will vacate it ourselves within a week!

Can't read the article without subscription. When did this gambling take place?

Former Indiana University basketball player Joe Hillman has been named in a probable cause affidavit as part of an alleged extensive gambling ring run by New Palestine businessman Bret A. Wells.

Hillman, a 6-2 guard from Glendale, California,  played for the Hoosiers from 1984-89, and was part of the 1987 national championship team.

Hillman has not been charged, but according to the affidavit filed Aug. 28 in Hancock Circuit Court, Hillman and Wells met several times while under surveillance by Indiana Gaming Control Officers.

Wells is charged with six felony counts, including professional gambling and corrupt business influence.

As of Sept. 1, sports gambling is legal in Indiana, but currently only in-person at sportsbooks at approved sites. Indiana law prohibits wagering on high school and amateur youth sporting events.

The affidavit cites numerous text messages in which bettors placed wagers with Wells on everything from boxing matches, to a New Pal football game.

According to the affidavit, Hillman is one of seven "agents" who collected money for Wells across about eight counties in Central Indiana. Wells' former business partner, who is not named in the affidavit, said Wells paid the agents 20% of the loses from gamblers.

Wells met  his agents in bars to pick up gambling proceeds, according to the affidavit. He used the website lockandloadsports.com, a site hosted out of Costa Rica, to take bets, the affidavit states. Lockandloadsports.com was taken down sometime between June and July 2019, Wells then created BigDogsportswagering.com, according to the affidavit.

On Sept. 12, 2018, Henry County Circuit issued a search warrant authorizing GPS tracking on a white 2016 Ford F-350 Pickup truck bearing a license plate registered to Wells.

On Nov. 6, 2018, Wells was observed meeting Hillman at Hillman's office at MassMutual Insurance on 900 E. 96th Street in Indianapolis, by a gaming control officer. Hillman came out of the business and handed Wells a "white envelope through Wells' truck window," according to the affidavit; Wells immediately left after the transaction.

Gaming control officers said they observed Wells and Hillman and the handoff of envelopes and money numerous times in 2018 and 2019.

According to the affidavit, gaming control officers interviewed a former business partner who stated since January 2016, Wells has taken 176,214 bets totaling $17,127,590.00 and made $1,826,862 in profit from the sports gambling business.

The former business partner said Wells spoke openly about his sports gambling business, according to the affidavit. He said Wells did all the gambling online and uses his computer at Wells Property Group and his cell phone to run the operation.

You created an account to post this? Within two minutes of creating an account you posted this and in another thread asking if IU practices shooting. I am stepping out a limb here, but I think you are probably a familiar face around these parts.

probably too early to start panicking.  of course it is Monday morning, so anything goes lol.  just having fun.  I am retired, so I am immune to Monday morning.  better yet, Monday is like Saturday for me.  every day is Saturday.  every day is a vacation.  Monday morning for me is better than most peoples' Saturdays because everything is open on Monday, and I usually have most places pretty much to myself on Monday.  Saturday might be the second 'worst' day of the week for me, and that term is only used relatively to emphasize that the second worst it gets for me is Saturday.  life is good.  retire!

It’s all good. I am sure the guys probably have a pretty good idea who you are. To me it was always funny to find out who would go to so much trouble to post on a free board.
