#IUMS - 2018 College Cup

Recommended Posts

At Armstrong earlier than usual and with a warm 50 deg night I can post tonight from game.

Sitting from a different perspective at mid field. Normally I sit closest to the goal IU is trying to score in each half but given the even 2 way traffic I expect between the teams possesion wise and potential sellout making it hard to move mid game I figured I’d do something else.

Frankie Moore looks good to go and warming up after leaving last game with injury. Expecting a great match and will try to provide updates throughout.

Update: Moore not starting but looks OK in warmups. For most teams thats a killer but for us it makes no difference with Thomas and Pancot starting instead of one or the other and thats zero drop off.

An additional student section created tonight behind goals to harrass ND goalkeeper. Crowd somewhat behind last yr but still strong and a lot coming in still. As of now looks like an opening season classic crowd between 3 and 4k (similar to what every elite 8 before last yr drew).

First off crowd filled into match if not exceed last yr.

In terms of the game we either miss Moore way more than I thought or that was just a bad half. I think its the latter. First time I have seen a team come into Armstrong and pretty well dominate a half. They had all the good chances and only great D and Muse a couple times kept the game scoreless.

Last yr. we gave up the goal but then had the better of the play till we equalized and were clearly more talented. Tonight ND has at least equal talent if not better and is the first team to effectively stop Dorsey from speeding down the field or Rennicks from dribbling around them. As we knew they can play top notch D like us with 4-5 guys and generate a high quality attack and we have not come close to a good chance. They also have the rediculous dribbling skills we do.

With all that said the last 3 games (if we get that far) this is the quality of competition we are going to face and have to figure out how to be more effective against it.

Really well played game by the boys. They were so organized in the back. Even though the Irish had more of the ball in the first half I never really felt like we were threatened. Then the second half our class really stayed to show. Some phenomenal combination play on the left flank with Gutman getting the final ball across for the winner. Really proud of how they executed tonight. Gameball might go to Trey Muse for that sprawling save late in the first half to keep it scoreless. If that goes in it changes everything with ND then able to pack it in the back. Celebrate tonight and then on to the next. Quest for nine continues in Cali.
