McGregor vs Mayweather - Aug 26

Recommended Posts

That's really a disgrace to the sport of boxing (and UFC for that matter). Two totally different styles with different rules, gloves, strategies, etc. This is an easy fight for Floyd, just like it would be an easy fight for McGregor if they fought under UFC rules. I'll watch it online if I can find a stream, but no way am I paying for PPV.

Man me too. I just don't think Conor can hang with him.

I can't stand Floyd so it'd be great to see him get his first loss against a guy that isn't even a boxer. I don't think Conor can either, but hey it just takes one punch.

I'll put the over/under of good punches at 10. I don't think McGregor lands many good punches let alone a great one to knock Floyd out. Floyd is a special talent at making money and not getting hit. I'm not sure Floyd could knock McGregor out with 10 of his best punches though.

Yeah there's usually not much action in Floyd's fights. He's great at what he does, but what he does is boring. I doubt I'll bother watching because you'll be able to fit the fight's highlights into a 20 second video.

Love boxing, but this is complete sludge. McGregor has exactly zero chance. None.  Won't land a single shot. And Mayweather will just toy with him. Unwatchable  for free, let alone $100. Now Canelo-GGG? Money is no object.

Only one reason McGregor would accept the fight.......more $ he'll see from this fight than his whole UFC career,

Mayweather's fights are ultra boring.  Truth is that what he has done over his career have been great for him but probably not real good for the sport.  Boxing has been on a continued decline and instead of being a good ambassador for the sport he's fought effective but boring fights and held out against the one fight that anybody cared about until his opponent was out of his prime.

I certainly don't see how McGregor will compete in the fight....two months of preparation against a guy who probably isn't looking to take risks and will simply methodically win the fight isn't a good script for a huge upset.  I will say that if Mayweather were to lose, the amount of damage to boxing may be insurmountable.  It's already lost it's luster and a huge portion of its fans to mixed martial arts (I include myself in that category......big boxing fan most of my life but some of the decisions and the lack of quality fights have stopped me from watching much of it).  A Mayweather loss -- though not loved by quite a few boxing fans -- would kind of signal that one of (it not the) top boxers can't even beat a mixed martial artist -- albeit a very, very good one BUT one who has three losses in his own sport.  McGregor got rear naked choked by Nate Diaz and followed that up by winning by the slimmest of margins as Diaz took him the distance and lost a majority decision (48-47, 48-47, 47-47) to McGregor.....and Diaz is only 19-11.  The nature of MMA is simply one where the competition is more even and there aren't as many hand picked fights to pad a fighter's record.  We won't see any fighter ever go 49-0 in MMA like Mayweather has in boxing (we'll probably never see anyone start their career like Fedor at 31-1 with the loss being a fluke cut in the first fifteen seconds of the fight)....for this reason, no MMA fighter will have the rep as being 'unbeatable'.  A Mayweather win over McGregor does nothing for boxing.  Even a semi-competitive match would be bad for boxing.

I find it impossible to get into a fight like this.  I've never been a big boxing fan but I could at least somewhat get interested in Mayweather/Pacquiao even if it happened years too late.

This is nothing but a money grab.  Mayweather has no chance under MMA rules, McGregor has no chance under boxing rules.

This fight makes no sense.. One of, if not THE greatest pound for pound boxers in the history of the sport against a guy who's had a few amateur boxing matches. Would have rather seen this fight under some sort of hybrid MMA/boxing rules... Mcgregor is going to be completely outclassed and probably be Floyd's first knockout since 2011.

I'll watch, but I really am not excited for this at all.
