IU vs Illinois Game Thread - 1/7 @ 5:00 ET

Great first ever game in the Hall tonight! Love the experience, but man if we don't shoot our selves in the foot the refs will do it for us! Still can't believe McRoberts got so many min with Green having a pretty good game!

My take: Good win against a decent team.  I liked the hot start for a change and it was a good game for us offensively. We played great defense the first half and poor defense the second half. For this team it seems to be all about intensity. When we play with it we are great---when we don't we are average.  Nice to see TB play better---and RoJo shooting and scoring better. Blackmon offensively was as awesome as usual--nice stat line. Personally--I'd like to see more Davis and I thought Devonte did a lot of good things that don't show up in the stats.  Once again---too many turnovers but most of those came second half when we lost our intensity. We did finish this one off when it counted so maybe we are improving from all the close losses.  And finally--- refs---way too many touch fouls! On to the next---for Maryland on the road---we better be focused like we were for the first half of this one. Go Hoosiers----a win sure feels a heck of a lot better than those losses!

Its a needed win but illinois is not a decent team.

A win is a win, especially in conference. Some of the same issues that plagued us are still there but we won easily because Ill is not great.

Quick threes and turnovers usually leads to easy points for opponents. IU limited these in the first half and was able to get an early lead before a sloppy second half.

We'll need to hit a lot of shots to beat the fighting head thrower backers Tuesday.

That is the recipe and when they go in at 50% iu wins and when they dont they lose. We shall see what they do at maryland but we cant have half of our shots being threes. Its not a sustainable game plan.

Watched every second of the game. Out of habit I guess. It was typical IU under you know who. After stinking up the joint for 3 straight losses everyone seemed fairly focused today. Good start, 15 mins of good D and 13 threes equaled a W against an average Illini team.

I'm tired of saying, green needs more minutes!

This^^^. I don't understand what he gives us. He can play average defense but won't score. Won't even look to score. Won't even think, about thinking, about scoring. Won't see me saying he is a liability, but simply does not deserve the minutes he is getting late in games. We will see it again, Zach pulling minutes, late in a close one. It will cost us.

Semantics but I beg to differ---Illinois is certainly decent (now 11-5 and 1-2 in the BIG) ---which means adequate or average. Agree they are not good or great and it is certainly OK if we continue to hate them!  I hope they enjoyed their visit to the REAL simon skojdt ASSEMBLY HALL!  :120:

Lets see what their final big ten record is. They got destroyed at maryland as well and have a terrible coach.

Not decent enough for some fans on a message board but numbers wise it was considered a good win. Illinois has the 3rd best rpi of big 10 teams (37). Iu (rpi is 137). So technically( going by committee's criteria) that was a bad loss for Illinois. These numbers will change as the season moves forward but to say Illinois is a total garbage team when the they have wins against Nc state, byu, Vcu, and ohio st ( all top 100 wins) is inaccurate in my opinion.

It's a decent win but we both know that RPI 37 will be much much lower (higher) when the committee gets together on selection Sunday. It's shocking that more coaches/ADs don't try to stack their schedules to boost their OOC SOS. I guess they lift Vitor we certainly don't do it.

So is it true this is only our 3rd win against a top 100 team----the other two being Kansas and UNC ? Yikes---I forgot about all the cupcakes we play. Maybe that's why it takes us a while to get going each year......

It's worst then that those are our only top 150 wins. 4 losses to top 50 teams and 1 loss to 150 (ipfw)

I know that's why I said these numbers will change but since all B1G teams rpi are around the same area do u really believe they will drop all they way out of the top 100 rpi?
