ThompsonHoosier Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Former Oklahoma player: @GabeIkard: Kevin Wilson once ripped my buckled helmet off my head, spit on my jersey, & punched me in chest during practice. But the guy could coach. Quote

8bucks Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Do we really have confidence on the offensive side without Wilson? Other RB and our line coach I think Wilson was the engine driving things on offense. I would like to see us pour money into the OC with a veteran coach who also fills in the asst HC role to help Allen find his way as a HC. Quote

Hoosierfan2017 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Man, this really doesn't seem like the players disliked him. Check out Tony Bennett's Twitter. Quote

But, I always iked Kevin Wilson, I really thought he was doing a good job building this program. Quote
akhosrof Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Also could scare a lot of people. Who wants to compete with Mich, MSU, OSU, and PSU in the Big Ten east? especially knowing it will be hard to recruit the same level of talent to IU and knowing the resources will be lower than those blue blood programs. It would take a guy like Les Miles who has the aurora and physical presence to go against Harbaugh and Meyer. Miles is only coming here is he gets big $$ for an offensive staff and recruiting budget. That would be a positive in a sense. It would require a financial commitment to football IU has never seen. Miles is a midwestern boy and would recruit splendidly. I don't want to lose Tom Allen. Ole Miss was rumored to try and bring him back as their OC. Fantasy staff would be Miles as HC, Allen as DC, and a big ticket OC. However, Miles is a defensive coach and I'm not sure Allen would stay because he'd have less say over the D with Miles. Things just got really interesting. As far as the buyout: I wonder if Wilson had a clause to bypass it given previous allegations?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Dalton26 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Just read that Ole Miss was planning to try to hire Coach Allen to be their DC Quote
Beachfront Property Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 This sounds like a handful of disgruntled players to me. Of course the media will flock to their side and tell their "awful" stories of mistreatment. Look for Kravitz to write a real tear jerker. You have to have a separation of powers between the medical staff and the football coach. The head coach is not a medical professional and should have no say when a player returns. He should be completely excluded from the process. That way, when the inevitable disgruntled player complains - it cannot fall on the head coach. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 If the new permanent coach isn't Allen, expect most of the current staff to look for jobs elsewhere. It's just the nature of the beast that an outside hire will want 'his people' on his staff. A couple of the current staff could be rehired, but I would expect a substantial turnover. Quote
Brass Cannon Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 We have to go with Allen. But I think we need to hire a splashy DC and then be prepared to hire a splashy OC if we struggle with that again. hsrtxp 1 Quote

Yeah definitely sounds like he was one of those coaches you either hated for being overly tough or loved for pushing you to be the best you could. It's a fine line for some people though. akhosrof Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Would rather get a proven guy here for that position. We can't risk our momentum stalling If Allen was the head coach there would be no doubt Allen would continue to call the defense. He would have to hire an OC who essentially would be head coach of the offense with little input from Allen. Really no different than what we had. CKW called the offense, Johns wasn't a typical OC. Allen ran the defense with little input from Wilson. It would be the same thing with Allen and Hagen.
