  2. Well I did grow up believing the world revolves around me. Back to college basketball, Monday is my first day back at work for the year (I teach) and that begins my earnest countdown to fall break which is the beginning of practice. I start to really get anxious to get the season rolling this time every year. Fall break is also when my wife is due to give birth to our 2nd child making our first no longer an only like me. See how I tied all these topics together? Sent from my LG-D850 using BtownBanners mobile app

  3. Happy for him. I'm honestly really shocked though I figured the Lin pick up and poor play in the summer league would've done him in. Hopefully he takes this chance and runs with it

  6. It's still partially guaranteed. This deal essentially guarantees him an invite to training camp and gives his NBADL rights to Brooklyn. I would say he's still a long shot to make their NBA roster. Rooting for him though! Would love to see him wow them in camp.

  7. Coach Allen, Hagen, Inge and Shelby are killing it on the recruiting trail for 2017! The sort of knowledge and recruiting talent on the defensive coaching staff is on a different level than anything CKW has had before. We are building a nice defense with true B1G talent!

  17. Well played keet, and congrats man!! I'm stoked about the season as well. I think we have some good tests in the noncon that will have the CBB media buzzing which will help with recruiting. There are some other games that should be good in the noncon too. Unfortunately/fortunately, I might be here for Hoosier Hysteria for the first time in years!

I think you guys are piling it on X a little to thick again. He's pretty much right when he says that most kids are going to select to play in the NBA and make money when presented with the opportunity to go pro or stay in school. Sure you can find counter-examples, Dunn, Bryant, Marcus Smart, etc., but those kids tend to be the exceptions these days and not the rule. Using baseball as a comparison isn't really fair at all. There are 40 rounds in the MLB draft. Generally if a high school kid is selected in the first 5 rounds, he is a lock to skip college. Once you get in the later rounds, and your chances of actually making a MLB roster are slim, kids will generally elect to attend college. Most, I assume, are trying to improve their draft stock (who wouldn't want to?), some value an education as well. I not a huge fan of the "one and done" rule either, because I think there are some better models. Let the kids go straight out of high school. Let a kid be drafted by a team, but come back to school. They hold his rights for X amount of years. Things of that nature. Each model will have its drawbacks and critics. But, I also don't buy into the philosophy that college-aged kids value an education less than they used to. Sure, some kids may not take it serious when they are on campus for a year. Back in the day some kids who were on campus for multiple years still didn't take it serious. It's all up to the individual in every case.

  23. 3-Star prospect out of Georgia committed earlier today. Nice list of offers including UK, Louisville, Memphis, Minnesota, and West Virginia. "Though this amazing journey I just wanna thank the man above," Hunt said in a tweet Thursday, "without him none of this would be in the making. I wanna thank all my coaches from past years because they always pushed me to be the best just so I could make it this far. I also wanna give a big thanks to the coaching staff of Indiana. Coach Shelby and coach Allen for being amazing through this recruiting process. But I've come to my decision and and I'm very proud to say I'm officially committed to Indiana University." 247 Videos Twitter

  27. Las Vegas: Three prioritizing Phinesee Evan Daniels LAS VEGAS -- 2018 point guard Robert Phinesee scored 19 points in a win over the Iowa Barnstormers on Thursday. Following the game Scout caught up with the four-star guard and discussed the schools recruiting him the hardest. [IU, PUke, Butler, Xavier] Evaluation Notes Indiana native Robert Phinisee landed in Scout’s updated 2018 player rankings at the beginning of the month. Phinesee’s play with the Indiana Elite 16’s, at least on Thursday, proved that he certainly was deserving of that honor. \ Phinesee, who stands 5-foot-11, is a crafty lead guard that uses a good handle and change of pace to slice his way into the paint and make plays. Phinesee is a good passer with quality vision, but he also proved to be a pretty good finisher as well. Through two games at the adidas Summer Championship, Phinesee is averaging 16 points and 4.5 assists. He’s also yet to turn the ball over.

As for you post KB0 I agree with you. You are discussing a gray area, and not black and white. That was 100% our point this issue and previous ones. Because all putting out blanket statements does is starts fights. We have explained this and booted him from this site in the past. He kept trying to circumvent the process, then rinse and repeat. Next time we will play with IPs. We tried being nice by letting him come back this time from his ban(s). He had 3 strikes. He has 1 left.

It is nitpicking when it's a one off post. It really isn't when that is all you bring to boards. It's a short leash on a last warning so I am fine either way. There have been repeated requests to stop what it is he does. He hasn't changed. It will soon be over.

I never said that someone selected in the top 5 rounds of the MLB draft was a lock to make the MLB. I said they will "generally skip college and go to the MLB." Which is the truth. It just seems like a lot of nitpicking to me. Some deserved, some not deserved.

A couple of things a player selected in the top 5 rounds is not a lock in the MLB draft. There are counter examples in every sport. THAT WAS WHAT WE WERE SAYING. He said EVERY ATHLETE that can make a million dollars will leave. So WE are piling on because we showed not EVERY athlete that can make a million in various sports goes pro. WTF did I miss? I personally don't care one way or another about the one and done rule. It's the asinine blanket statements in every thread about Kentucky, the NBA, or the one and done rule. If you come to a board any board and throw those out consistently they will get picked apart. It has been that way for around the 15 years I have been on various boards.

  42. Bryant wanted to hang out with his teammates and enjoy the big-man-on-big-campus college spring season because, while the lure of pro riches is strong, there’s a lot to be said for life outside the real world. And you’d better believe pro basketball is rim-rocking real. "I thought, I love playing under Coach (Tom) Crean and playing with my guys,” Bryant said during Wednesday’s IU alumni gathering at Huber’s Wineries in southeastern Indiana. “I knew the key things I needed to get better at, so I thought I’d take that time to work on the things I needed to get better at, then go home and return to IU ready for the summer.” Bryant projected as a possible first-round pick, perhaps even a lottery selection. As a freshman, he averaged 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. He shot nearly 70 percent from the field and was three-for-three in double-figure scoring games in the NCAA tourney, including an impressive 19 points in the Kentucky win. Still, the first round means guaranteed millions of dollars, so not just passing on the draft, but also on the chance to work out with NBA teams, participate in the NBA Combine and receive input from NBA coaches, scouts and others was a significant decision for this former McDonald’s All-America. After all, 117 underclassmen did declare for the draft, and if most returned to school, all got a thorough evaluation from NBA officials. “I talked to my parents, I talked to my coaches, the coaching staff and I talked to a couple of other people that are close to me to help me with this process,” he said. “The best decision for me was to just return. It was my decision to not test the waters. I wanted to stay here and be with my teammates, the coaching staff and get better.”

That's waaay too cynical, especially in light of the college degrees obtained by: Hulls, Watford, Oladipo, Zeller, Sheehey, Etherington, Roth, Pritchard, Creek, Ferrell, Jones, Williams, Elston, and many others that I'm probably forgetting. Oh, and also, every one of those IU degree recipients played on a B1G championship squad.
