Predictions for Big Ten and NCAA tournaments

Recommended Posts

I'm not sold on pu being able to beat IU.  They struggle against good guards and athletic wings.  They shoot poorly away from wacky arena.  Against the top half B1G teams pu had to have other worldly performances from a decent player or two just to get the win.  Davis went off against MSU, 6-8 from 3, to beat MSU in OT by 1.  Mathias had an excellent shooting game to get by Maryland.  Thompson (6-8 from 3), Edwards (3-5 from 3), and Swan (shooting Nigel Hayes number of FTs) to beat Wiscy.

Also, if you press them and keep them from getting open looks from three you can beat them.  I truly believed IU took their foot off the gas towards the end of the game at Assembly Hall and it almost cost us.  I don't see that happening in a rematch in Indy and could actually see IU winning by double digits.  Although pu will definitely be bringing their "A" game to get a shot at big brother.

My view is, if you have not worked long and hard on a press defense, chances are great that you will be beaten often.

Also, teams like Iowa and Maryland don't have deep benches like IU or MSU. Full court press with 6 guys for forty minutes makes for a sloppy loss.

I'm torn between being happy we are getting started today and still hating that we have Wednesday games.

Plus, I can't get down for the early rounds. I've seen these teams play each other before and it was ugly, do I think it will be less ugly today?

Minnesota and Rutgers losing is such a foregone conclusion that it's not even a contest.
