they are entrenched into a system that makes the regular season meaningless.

You are so contrary. Yes it makes regular season championships meaningless. But, the season has meaning in the fact that there are 32 at large bids available. You earn those bids during the season.

not with all the one bid leagues. We know Monmouth, Arkansas Little Rock, Stephen F Austin and UAB are good teams. Yet could lose in their conference title games by a 90 footer at the end and go straight to the NIT. That makes the regular season meaningless. Those 4 should make the tourney either way. They're better than the bottom teams that are getting in for power conferences. But instead their season is just 3-4 games long. The rest of the season is just fluff.

You're fighting for seeding in the conference tourney to have a better shot at the automatic bid. Similar to teams in larger conferences fighting for seeding in the Tourney. Stephen F. Austin will be a 1 seed and get a double-bye. From there they can show they are good enough in tournament situations to earn a spot at the big dance. Who cares if a team wins by half-a-game and then loses in the first round of their tourney? Looks like they can't quite handle neutral court games. If they want to earn a spot the same way power teams do, schedule a non-conference full of top RPI wins to make up for your sub-200 conference season.

And how does your version handle ties? Complicated tie-breakers? Is that better? The regular season just isn't the be-all-end-all for the teams, that doesn't make it meaningless. If Abilene hits a buzzer beater at the last second to beat Stephen F. Austin in the championship game and win the automatic bid it's no more meaningless than if Monmouth beats Duke in the first round of the Tourney. That's the excitement of a single-elimination tournament, the best team doesn't always win.

So a team can go 0-18 in conference.. win their conference tourney and goes to the tourney.. while another team in the conference goes 18-0... loses in the conference tourney... and is off to the NIT.. that possibility madness the regular season meaningless in 1 bid conferences. It always will.

When has a team ever gone 18-0 in their conference and missed the tourney?

So, a team can go 18-0 in the ACC, face an 0-18 team who won their tourney, and lose in the first round making the regular season meaningless?

It's just a different structure. We are in a top conference which benefits us in a lot of ways and costs us in a lot of ways. One way it benefits us is the BTT is not necessarily determinative for the Tourney. So, during the year, we play for seeding in March. Each game has meaning in that it changes where we sit on the brackets.

Stephen F. Austin is in a smaller conference. They likely could move to a larger conference if they wanted to, but right now the cost to them is too high. So, when they play the regular season, they are playing for seeding in the conference season which may lead to a bid. Stephen F. Austin gets to play the 4 seed at worst prior to the championship game. That's an advantage given to them by their regular season play.

It's not meaningless to go 18-0 and get a 1 seed in a conference tournament (even if you lose) anymore than it is meaningless to go 32-0 and get a 1 seed in the Tourney (even if you lose). It's just a different perspective. Coming from a school with a basketball tradition, we don't hang banners for conference tourney championships, but if you look in the rafters at Stephen F. Austin you'll see a banner with "2014 2015 Southland Conference Tournament Champions" on it because it has meaning to them and the game is important to them.

The P5 are the ones with the messed up tournament system, not everyone else.

Edit: And in 2013, did Stephen F. Austin deserve to be in the Tourney more than Northwestern State because they only lost twice in conference and NW State lost three times? Doesn't the opportunity to Northwestern State to come in as a 2-seed in the Southland Tourney and beat Stephen F. Austin mean anything?

I'm a Lumberjacks fan for almost no reason, that's why I focus on Stephen F. Austin.

I just really hope SFA, Arky-LR, Monmouth and UAB get in... those are 4 teams that can busy brackets. I'd rather see them get in over a Michigan, Pitt, Florida or something.

I would really like to get PSU in the first game to get a little revenge although PSU is putting together some good performances recently.  It would be nice to get to the finals or even win it.  MSU, Wiscy, and IU are playing the best ball in the B1G right now.  I want this team to have all the possible success for the outgoing players and giving the younger players some experience going forward.

No doubt that would be nice revenge ! I am scared of any of the teams. The lower teams have nothing to lose and we have everything to lose. I don't like those scenarios when the opponent is on the upswing like a Penn State or even Nebraska.

I want double bye. I want OSU in quarters, Michigan in semis, and MSU in final to prove we deserve it.

Teams I fear on neutral court in order

1. MSU
2. Purdue
3. Maryland
4. Wisconsin
5. Iowa
6. Michigan with Lavert
7. OSU
8. NW
9. Penn St.
10. Illinois
11. Nebraska
12. Minnesota
13. Rutgers

Right now, I would put Wiscy at #2 and push everyone else down.  Iowa seems to be slumping at the wrong time.  Maryland has all the talent needed to win big but Melo is tossing the ball all over the gym and clanking everything.  pu is a solid team with only average perimeter players.  I really think we could take it to them a second time with another good Troy performance and a solid 40 minute effort.
