Indiana v. Northwestern POSTGAME Thread

I think one reason Troy has not been turning it over as much is that he is not being asked to drive as much. Yogi controls the drives far more since JBj went down. Troy will still drive occasionally during half court sets but not nearly as much.

I think this change came from Crean. If you have been close enough to hear Crean has often been on Troy "we have to drive that ball". "Got to get more drives" ETC. Even his halftime talks with TV he has mentioned that a lot.

That focus encouraged TW to drive even when the lane was not there. Since the injury, he has spent s lot more time on the baseline and when he gets it outside he has been shooting more.

I'll second the observation that the troy point forward project has decreased. Maybe that's a product of us moving the ball and driving with intention to pass for a good shot instead of everyone standing around and then we just have to give it to troy with 8 secs left for the high ball screen high running away from the hoop hook shot maneuver

I'm sure the lack of JBJ vs defense is better holds some water. But did CTC just make it simpler? I really haven't seen any zone and definitely not any switch from man to zone with 10 seconds on the shot clock.
I remember Dackich said during a game when we were struggling- just learn/execute 1 type of defense really really well, then you can add more looks.
I feel I like we're learning to play 1 type really well.

Yes, i realize it's a set and helpside rotation is needed. It was there in the 1st half and better in the later part of the 2nd. If they spread the floor, helpside rotation can be late and they where trying to cover it with the ballside hedge defender, which was not working. I agree 100 its a set and was done on purpose.

sorry if i seemed condensing lol i really think it's a good defense for us. forces us to be aggressive

No problem. I think it's a good defense when done right. I'm not sure we have to do it on every high ball screen, but I do agree it needs to be done to keep the other team honest. We just need to ensure we have proper rotation and the hedger does not loose his man completely.
