Read the Illinois 247 site breakdown of the situation. Didn't leave his most recent school (Hamilton Heights in Tennessee) on good terms and also questioned the Illinois staff on why they were continuing to recruit guards after he committed.

I'd like to say that I'm shocked by all of this but I'm not.

Hamilton Heights is playing at a showcase event I’m going to in Jan, COVID willing. Was looking forward to seeing Bass play against Keynote George. Oh well, c’est la vie.

PUke lands yet another big man.

Purdue has landed a commitment from 7-foot-2 Swedish big man William Berg. Berg recently cut his list to two and after taking visits to Purdue and Utah State he ultimately decided to play for Matt Painter and the Boilermakers.

“My relationship with Purdue has been great and they've always shown me that they are a school that produces great big men and know how to develop them both on and off the court,” said Berg. “They develop their players both physically and basketball wise so I can really see myself calling that place home.”

“The staff all really invest in their players and are always pushing them to become better. They're always there and encourage them to get better every day. They contribute to the culture really well by putting in the extra work for their players which I love.”

Berg’s official visit also played a major role in this decision.

“The visit was great,” he said. “I visited both schools and they were both over my expectations but Purdue was better in my opinion. I really liked hanging out with the coaches and players as well. They're a great bunch of guys and you can really see that the culture they're portraying on social media is their real culture. They're all playing for the success of the team rather than the success of themselves which I prioritized really high in my decision.”

With Berg committed to the now, No.1 team in the country, he looks to come in and help the team win in any way he can.

“I'm a pretty hard worker, versatile player on the court, and I think I'm going to contribute a lot to the culture of the team,'' he said. “I'm always going to give 100% on the court, helping out in any way for whatever the team needs.”

Wow, Purdue taking a swing at a not that highly regarded 7+ footer.  What are the odds that works out for them?

Eeddy was the same thing and look at him.  Painter is really good at finding diamonds in the rough when it comes to 7 footers.

This.  In addition to Eeddy, look at Trevion Williams who is a bit smaller, 6'8" or so, and was a 3* ranked in the 150's out of HS - look at him today.  As much at it pains me to say, CMP is tremendous when it comes to finding under recruited bigs that fit his system.

Yeah.....I was being sarcastic.  Matt Haarms was rated in the 300s and Zach Edey was in the 400s.

Sorry, I didn’t catch that!  After re-reading it, I can see that now!

Painter, like Keady, can find big men that aren’t highly recruited and develop them.  Edey actually has coordination, probably from playing baseball and hockey. Someone told me he actually didn’t play basketball until he was 17.  Who knows how this kid turns out, but I am betting he will be decent by the time he graduates, if not before then.

Ouch. So it appears that they currently will have a grand total of ZERO recruits for next year.

Haven’t watched a second of Brumbaugh, and if he’s looking for a better offer that’s fine, but a full ride to Northwestern doesn’t strike me as the worst contractual situation in the world.

He had offers from Kansas and Texas when he chose northwestern.   It was between Texas and northwestern the first time around.
