Someone tell me to stop worrying...please!

When it comes to rooting for Hoosier football, I'm as die hard as about anybody I know (besides some of you guys here on the message boards).

Why is it that the stars just won't seem to align Coach Wilson?

1) Year one was not a surprise to anyone I think.  Coach cleaned house and basically started from scratch.

2) Year two comes along.  Don't believe anyone expects the Hoosiers to be good, but that they should certainly improve.  Sure enough, along comes that 4 - 8 record.  Tre got hurt, but Coffman was a very pleasant surprise at QB as far as most people were concerned.  Just when a bowl was within reach, games were absolutely coughed up to Ball State and Navy.  I believe the Hoosiers even lost 4 games by a combined total of 10 points or so.  So close, but the defense just wasn't quite up to the task.

3) Year three and there was a significant buzz around Wilson's team.  Amazing offense, and historically bad defense.  Just one stop against Navy and that team probably goes bowling.

4) Year four comes along.  We know the offense would not be as good (at least not the passing game).  Coffman transfers, but that's okay because we have two capable QB's, right? Wrong, Tre transfers in June and we get ridiculously thin at QB after Suds. Worst nightmares come true at Iowa.  Even though defense was quite improved at times (didn't run defense drastically improve???), there was nothing in the passing game for much of the year with an outmatched Diamont.  The defense was not great, not good, not even mediocre, but at least good enough to probably get us to a bowl with Suds.

5) Now year five, all sorts of talent on paper on the offensive side of the ball; I think most Hoosier football fans are fairly comfortable in saying we should at least have an average offense, if not above average.  The defensive front seven is as strong as its been in a long time, but now to my point...the secondary.  We lose Allen; we lose the kid to OK St. We are going to be incredibly young.  I can't help but fear that at some point this season I'm going to have the thought, "man that was bowl team if not for the inept and young secondary."  Are the stars ever going to align for Coach Wilson?  Somebody tell me not to worry.  Somebody tell me I'm going to be pleasantly surprised at how these albeit young, but very athletic dudes in the backfield are actually going to be an improvement over what we've seen in recent years?

Thanks...better now.

I hate to be THAT guy...

and all of your concerns are valid and all...

but...

IU football is a wait-n-see kind of program...

I've been around long enough to know that "worry" is only worth it's weight...

and with IU football...

well...

we are talking about a measurement that probably units feathers...or something similar.

but hay...er hey...don't let me keep you from your optimistic worry...

I would worry..

Not only the secondary but what if Nate goes down again?  I mean last year we could at least give it to Tevin and watch him carry the entire offense.  I don't think we'll be able to do that this year.

Also, our secondary is unproven already but what if their are injuries in the secondary too.  We might have to bring on a few baseball players to play in the defensive backfield.

I would worry and worry a lot.

That's harsh.  It's IU football, just enjoy!

Every football team has varying level of concerns. It's quite normal. I think you're going to like fants coverage skills and dutra is a natural ball hawk. So really there are two guys I trust which is a good start. Let's see how the other spots shake out and go from there

I never "worry"about IU football.  but I always start the year with HOPE that this is the year.  Sometimes it does seem like the program has a curse like the Billy Goat.

If I thought an animal sacrifice at the 50 yard line under a full moon would do any good.  I would have broken into Memorial Stadium years ago..  :)

Fant and Dutra are already good players. Bennett,Murphy, and Hunter got burned quite a bit. The Secondary will be better. My worry is that we have 1 respectable QB.

To be fair, saying our secondary will be better may not be true.  Dutra is good, sure, but outside of him, we are YOUNG.  Fant hasn't seperated himself from a walk-on, who coming out of spring, actually beat him out.  Fields is probably the other starter at safety, who got burned last year just like Murphy did.  The corners are who exactly?  I'd pick Fant and Padmore, but we don't have much there now.  Then, who is the nickle?  We're gonna have true freshman playing this year at corner in a combination of Devonte Williams, Brown and Green.  Crawford probably plays at safety and Cook could also see time back there.  The B1G is not a place you want to be playing freshman in the secondary.
