Now that thons off the board for this season

Here we go again. No, Troy shouldn't be able to average 17 and 8. The list of players in the B1G over the last 5ish years to average 17 and 8 is short. I don't remember the exact names but it wasn't a long list. Kamisky, Zeller, Mbakwe, Sullinger, and I believe one other. So no, 17 and 8 isn't really attainable for Troy.

He averaged 13 points and 7.4 rebounds last year. He's pretty much there with the rebounds. No reason he can't averaged almost 17 points a game.

That's a VERY high-end list of players.

Troy Williams is good enough to be added to that list. The only question is whether he will get enough chances with all the other scorers we will have in the lineup. Don't think he will.

There's several reasons he can't average 17 points a game.  Their names are Yogi, James, Thomas, etc.  I wouldn't be surprised to see his rebounding drop a little too.  He will have a good year and hopefully lead IU to a good finish but 17 and 8 is hard to do in the B1G.

17 PPG boils down to 3 things, even with our potent lineup.

1. Will he show up in most games?

2. Does he knock down free throws above 75%?

3. Does he knock down 3's around 38% and shoot 1+ a game?

Troy will put up good numbers but averaging 17 and 8 is B1G POY and contending for NPOY numbers. Even if Troy is consistent, it will be difficult to average those numbers. Yogi, JBJ, and TB will be scoring. 15 points per will be high for Troy if Yogi and JBJ put up the same numbers as last season. 8 rebounds is usually top 3 in the B1G. With TB and MB, along with time from Hartman, OG, and Morgan will take away some of those rebounding opportunities.

But hey, if we can stop people and force bad shots there might be more defensive rebounds to be had. I'm expecting a big year from Troy, just not 17 and 8 big.

Troy Williams WAS 3rd in the BigTen last year in rebounding.

1 Branden Dawson Michigan State BIG10 F 35 102 216 318      9.1

2 Frank Kaminsky Wisconsin BIG10 F 39 58 262 320                 8.2

3 Troy Williams Indiana BIG10 F 32 71 167 238                          7.4

i had to laugh at # 2 because that depends on how often Crean is going to pull Troy after some made free throws.

We have the potential as a team to put up a lot of points this season. I see no reason why Troy can't average 17 per game. His rebounds might be around 5 or 6, but I'd attribute that more to better bigs and the fact that our guards aren't terrible rebounders either.
