IU Hoosier41

Starting 5 as of Today

Recommended Posts

I will stick with my previously posted 5 starters and I prefer Bryant playing the traditional 5 spot but I have to admit I was surprised he looked so comfortable going out and shooting the three in the Derby Classic.  We need him underneath and to be a rim protector and rebounder on D---but he might be able to add to our offensive ability to stretch the D if he can consistently shoot from distance.  Just a part of his game I was not aware of and a pleasant surprise.

Yea Bryant is basically the perfect 5 man for our system, has size and can board and play defense, but also has the ability to spread the defense. Massive props to Crean because I truly do not think there was a recruit out there who fits our needs better than Thomas Bryant.

There is no chance Morgan or OG start as freshmen at PF. Much more likely Hanner/Hartman/Holt IMO

Hope not. Hartman all he can do is shoot terrible ball handling skills and not very good rebounder either hanner and holt don't have very good jump shots but can rebound and somewhat score down low.
OG seems like he has the potential to come out and be affective right away! Just watching is interview he seems very serious about basketball so I'm guessing he will improve a lot so y couldn't he start?

OG is a freshman, don't set your expectations too high. Two things about potential starters out of those 3 though.

1. Our coach is Tom Crean. He likes to do things the same, not really mixing it up a lot. So either it'll be 3 guards, TW, and TB, or it'll be 2 guards, TW, TB, and either Collin or Hanner. Also, OG is the lowest rated recruit. Sure, that doesn't always mean they are right, but why would he start OG? If anything, he is basically Troy, and Troy will be a starter.

2. You're REALLY underestimating the impact a healthy Collin had on our team last year. He fights and scraps the most of anyone on our team and I'll take that any day (Note: CTC likes hustle players too). Collin wasn't a great rebounder because he was playing the 5. Who would expect him to rebound well? He doesn't need to handle the ball, so I'm not sure how that is an issue. And his shot, when he's shooting confidently, is a thing of beauty.

I don't really have an argument to back the other two up. I think Collin is the prototypical Indiana basketball player. My best guess would be that none of those three start.

His ball handling is an issue if he tries to drive so your saying its ok to have a player that is only capable of catching and shooting on the offense end and can "hustle" i mean we don't have much to choose from but I'd like to think recruits that we are bringing are capable of more than just that!! I'm just saying that it's not hard to gaurd a catch and shoot guy

Troy has only been really good at catch and dunks...

I think with an entire summer of healthy Colin working on his game he will be an asset next season. Also Colin seemed to be in the right place at the right time quite often last season. With so many "athletes" on the floor it's nice to see a high bball IQ player in the mix.

There are ways to get a catch and shoot guy open, for instance running them off screens; use off ball movement and off ball screens.  It's easy to guard an offense that doesn't move, and you don't need the ball to move. There is more to running offense than just a weave and ball screens, that's just mostly what our offense is.

Then how will he be an asset bc our offense will not change

At least Troy can drive and make someone work to gaurd him!! And I'll take players that can drive and get to the bucket over a 3 ball guy all day! You ask y? Simple, higher percentage shot and it doesn't matter how much we improve on offense, we need a defense to win!

"Why I dislike our offense" reason number....okay, I lost count of the reasons.  Let's just file this one under "not adjusting to maximize a player's strengths", reason number 30 or 40 or 50 or 1000.  That fault lies with someone else and not Collin though.

He's a smart player that knows how to get the job done, and he actually tried on defense unlike a few of our players.

I like Hartman don't get me wrong but for the way our offense is set up Hartman is not that affective

Q: What would you say are your strengths, as both a player and a teammate?
A: I would say athleticism, 3 point shooting, and defense, and as a teammate being unselfish and always supporting my teammates. I would also say passing is a strength of mine.

So y can't this be in the starting 5?
That's OG
