Tom Crean Contract buyout page?

Recommended Posts

are the big donors that have earmarked money to pay for Crean's buyout idiots too? No different

There is a slight difference in that they are doing everything behind the scenes.  (If they have in fact contacted the AD and stated the money would be there)  I'm not one to tell others what they can/can't do though.

I hear you but the every day fan cannot just phone in $20 or whatever they can afford to do and earmark it towards something they are passionate about like a big donor that is providing 6 and 7 figure donations can. I don't like how a tiny portion of the fanbase has so much power and the vast majority have no power. This is a way for the majority to voice their opinion and put their money where their mouth is and give them a voice.

Shows passion and commitment to a program. If I'm a coaching candidate I would love to see that kind of passion from the fanbase. This is actually a more constructive means to an end then just bashing Crean on a message board

Without fundraisers there wouldn't be a salary to pay a coach, buy out a coach etcetera. It's necessary, just seems like people here prefer it done behind the scenes which I get but I like everyone having a say. Programs follow the money and if donors pull back, it forces their hand so fundraising is necessary but this kind isn't but I respect their effort. Some people like to complain but do nothing to fix the problem

An elite coach with confidence who connects well with fans (in other words, the opposite of Tom Crean) will view this as a cry for help, not some indictment of the job. If a coach decides not to come here, it will probably be for reasons other than "well, I was all set on going to IU, but then I saw that website trying to pay Crean's buyout and I'm just not sure I'd feel comfortable coaching at a place where the fans might not be happy with me if I miss the tournament 5 out of 7 seasons."

This type of stunt makes the fans of our program look petty. I believe Crean will be replaced but come on we need to have a little dignity and let things play out. The big money donors will take care of the fundraising. They really don't need Joe six packs money. Looks bad for recruiting a new coach and players
