I'm no Crean fan, but I believe he's going to get another year as long as we make the tourney.  However, if I were a guessing man, I'd say barring a big step up he's gone after next season.  I also think Crean staying one more year could be best for the program long term, as I think the potential candidate pool after next season will have more clarity and may be stronger.

Barring an actual national championship he should not be coaching beyond next season, as we have seen enough to determine what this program will look like on a near annual basis. Right now isn't a good time to judge candidates as it continually changes after the NCAAT, though I think we have an idea of who our top targets would be. I'd actually suggest that next year would entice a better candidate than two years from now, as there will be more to work with if the right pieces come back.

Guys (& gals), the only way Crean's job is in jeopardy is if Glass isn't the one making the decision.

Sorry I don't buy that.  Glass has always said what he has needed to say.  If the team does not make the NCAA tournament this year, then I think we have a new coach.

Is it bad that making the NIT and getting a new coach (I've always been a supporter of Crean but can't handle it anymore) is what I want? I'd be okay with missing the tournament this year if it meant we could be better in the near future.

You're asking him to admit to a mistake (the extension) that would cost the university 12 million this year...beyond the money, there's a whole lotta pride attached to that. Self preservation, my friend.

No its not. Short term pain for the long term benefit of the program is in the best interest of the program IMO.

Ive been wrestling with these thoughts for a year and a half. I wished he'd prove my fears wrong but it just isn't happening. If our recruiting was still shining it'd be a tougher pill to swallow but the recruiting has dipped at an amazing rate and it's the best prognosticator. The future isn't sunny unless Crean can pull the proverbial rabbit or 2 in the recruiting game. And even then does he waste it like he did with Vonleh??

I share the opinions of most on here about crean (wanting him gone), but realistically I just don't know how I feel about it, because I think if we fire him who are we gonna get? I feel we would be rushing to find someone for the right fit and we are back to "rebuilding" unless they are in the works of finding a new head coach. Trust me I'm fed up, but I just don't see him gone, but if he does get canned who will fill the position, I don't want to rush the process.

We are right now about 6 weeks aeay from the prime hiring season for coacbes. Begin the feeler proceds immedately. We have our Gilespie, we need to cut the ties.

UK got lucky because Gillespie never signed the contract. Only cost them 3 million vs 6 million if he had signed. IU is looking at 12 million. Cant see it happening.

I have said this before, but I see him coming back no matter what happens this year for 1 more year. His buyout is 12 mil and then drops to 6-7 mil in July? They will not pay the 12 mil and they will not fire him that far into the off season. It would doom the next coach coming in.

I would say he needs to make an elite eight run minimum plus a Movement 2.0 recruiting class to keep his job after 2016. My guess is that he and Freddie will both be updating their resume's at the same time.

I'd fire him, beg Stevens. Write a blank check.... If he says no, I'd give it to an assistant or interim and let him know that at the end of the year we are going after Stevens again. Then go back after Stevens

Makes the most sense to me. One more year of suffering.

At the start of the season, i never thought we were a tourney team. If struggle with our remaining games, we'll be heading to the NIT. Which i guess is PROGRESS from last year...

Nonetheless, it's IU. If we're not in the dance every year, then something needs to change.
