Magnanimous

Where do you personally rank the IU-PU rivalry?

I can name at least four Big10 teams I look forward to playing every year above Purdue. Given I live in the DC area now, Maryland is quickly becomming #5 for me. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in Indiana, but for me I only dislike Purdue because "I'm supposed to." Is this game still your #1?

Great topic.

I would say my number one "rival" that I'd like to see IU play every year would be Kentucky. Just because of the success that they have. Purdue's up and down nature leaves a lot to be desired in terms of performance of the rivalry. Every game recently has been so lopsided, but I still hate Purdue and I'd put it first among teams that we actually play, but second in terms of teams overall. Others would be Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State. I definitely look forward to playing consistently good teams (Wisconsin doesn't count for me because if only 1 team is winning every single game, it isn't a rivalry).

Edit: I really don't like Illinois either.

The IU-pUKe rivalry is #1 for me now, if and when we play them.

IU-PU is about tradition but it isn't as important as it once was. I certainly don't "hate" Purdue like I hate the cheaters at UK. Purdue is more of a friendly in-state rivalry these days but I still always look forward to a big win against them.

Great topic for a thread!

Honestly, more than hating Purdue's basketball team and everything, I cannot stand the people I know that go there and are so arrogant, while knowing basically nothing about the game of basketball. That is one of the main reasons they are near the top of my list: the fans.

Purdue is frustrating because it seems like whenever we beat them its not a big deal/expected REGARDLESS of their perforamce to that point. However, when we lose, it's a bad loss regardless of Home versus Away/Purdue's Performance/IUs Performance.

Honestly, there seems to be little in the rivarly other than 1 in the column.

I guess the games I look forward to most are

1) vs UK
2) vs PU

I am also really looking forward to our next game against Maryland. I think that could be a good rivalry going forward.

I hate Wisconsin, but I don't look forward to the games against them tho. I dread games vs Wiscy.

Bingo. I can't tell you how many times I heard the old, "I was in Florida and told someone that I went to Purdue. They thought it was an Ivy League school" story.

I would still put UK at # 1 on my list, but PU isn't far behind for me.

Purdue is my number 1, living in northern Indiana, I come across more Purdue fans than IU IMO.

I think I hate kentucky fans more than I hate the team lol, they never have anything nice to say about anything, just read the #bbn hash tag and youll know what I mean.

1. UK because i'm from S. Indiana and the fans are imbeciles. Plus, Calimari is a slimy guy

2. PU because of the tradition and the fans / students are snobs. Plus, i kinda felt sorry for them back in the day. Now, i just don't like them.

3. I really dislike Illinois

4. OSU but even though i get excited to play them, their fans are like..."It isn't football, so i don't care"

5. Michigan because it's Michigan and i remember being a student and went to the IU v M game. well, Michigan won with a last minute shot and their PG...Can't remember his name.... Ran to the center of the court and started jumping up and down on the IU emblem and then wiping his feet all over it.

6. MSU because they always get the media attention as the underdog

7. I'm really not liking Maryland because they beat us in 2002

The games themselves haven't carried much weight either recently. Tonight's game actually does, but the last 10 years it seems like only one of the teams has anything on the line when we meet. There hasn't been an IU-PU game where both teams have been ranked since Sampson's last game. It will always be a rivalry between the two teams, but it has had little impact on the national CBB landscape in quite some time.
