Thoughts on the Games in Indy Last Night

Recommended Posts

if this uk team doesn't run the table, I'm ready to write in stone no team ever will again.  they have a couple formidable non-conference challenges ahead in texas, unc and louisville, but the first two are in rupp and louisville doesn't have much depth, especially in the frontcourt.  harrell cant handle rebounding and interior defense duties by himself in that game like he could in some.  uk wont get challenged in a horrible sec other than possibly in gainesville, then ride into the big dance just as confident and dominant as their championship team from a couple years ago.

Yes, I caught some of the UK/KU game and became ill. Let me excuse myself, please.

Outside of a major scandal or plane crash, UK will walk to the championship. They have two starting fives that can wax any others best 5. They played so unselfish with great defense; I don't see any other teams competing. All 10 players won't have a bad game on the same night plus they will never get in foul trouble. How Calipari can take stars and make them play as role players is to be commended. They have bought in to the program. Litterally lol.

Cal is much much more than a recruiter. He manages these kids very well and gets them ready for the NBA. Pretty good in game coach as well. If he makes this platoon thing work watch out til a rule change.

Laugh at the people who say MSU will have a down year. Not under Izzo's watch.

THey will still be good, but not like they have been the past few years. They don't have much depth at all. Losing Harris and Payne was huge for them. They don't seem to have a go to scorer. They are in the same boat with us as far as "big man issues" (Michigan as well). Im not saying they are going to finish at the bottom, but they are easily beatable

Only important box score stat from the KU/UK game that matters IMO....KU assists..5. 5 freaking assists. They took nearly the same amount of shots between the teams and UK only outrebounded them by 5. That being said, I think I will wait until April before I crown anyone champion. UK is big, but not unbeatable...its not Ivan Drago out there.

I agree and never even mentioned recruiting. What I did say was them buying in to be role players which is coaching 101; team before self. There will never be a rule regarding platoon subbing as you can still only play 5 at a time. The only rule to stop his juggernaut would be a mandatory 2 or 3 year requirement to stay in college if you enroll. No more one and dones, but allow the kids to go pro straight out of high school.

I kind of laugh at the idea that Cal gets them to the NBA. My main question is do kids care more about simply getting into the NBA or being good players in the NBA? Kentucky has sent a lot of players to the NBA but only John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, and Anthony Davis are actually relevant players, and none really play for championship caliber teams

haha ccg, I send that video to people all the time.  works for many occasions.  my favorite on all of youtube.  best part is the woman at the end saying "what was that?" and "did you see that?"  nah, I didn't see the huge hippo directly in front of us take a huge helicopter ****.  pretty sure the sound is edited in, not that it wasn't a great decision.

I agree about UK, probably the best team coach Cal has had. Unfortunately...

Duke, I don't think it all too powerful. They have great guard play. Okafor struggled going up against people of similar height and when push came to shove he got in foul trouble. Duke is definitely in a class of their own but if another big team has great guard play, they are matched. After they got beat out of the tourney early last year with Parker, I don't really fear them anymore.

The only major disagreement I have is with MSU. They just looked bad last night. They played no D. Dawson did rebound like an animal and their new grad transfer can hit the wide open three. Ive seen Michigan St, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin play so far this year and after all those games I definitely think Wisky continues to be the dominant team in the conference but I think we can hang with and beat anyone else in the conference. MSU and Michigan weren't impressive to me.

I don't think Okafor struggled at all. He could have had 30+ if he wanted to and didn't pick up his 4th foul until under 10 left in the game.

UK basketball summed up in 45 seconds.

I always love that sort of argument from people. So he just didn't feel like scoring 30 points last night. I'm just saying even Coach K said his fouls were the result of finally going up against guys his size, but Costello and whoever else MSU had weren't too much competition for him. I think he is definitely good, but no where near the superstar that people have been hyping so far. I just get tired of the media hyping up guys every year. Parker, Wiggins, and Embiid last year. Embiid got hurt but Parker and Wiggins choked during the big time in the tourney

Nah I didn't really mean it like that. They stopped feeding him the ball after his hot start and started settling for outside shots. Luckily they were still hitting.

Yeah Jones and Cook are two amazing guards. They both played their hearts out

I don't see the great in game coaching myself. I do believe that he has taken a rule (one and done) that many despise and has in fact embraced it and used it to his advantage. I think he is more psychologist than coach. IDK, maybe that is coaching.

I don't really get how it is Cousins fault that Sacramento's management is an utter joke. Him and Davis are super stars in the NBA. They aren't the issues with their teams. Also, Washington is up there in the East

I never said that Cousins or Davis were the problems with their teams. Although one could argue that Cousins is part of the problem in Sacramento, he's had the highest amount of technicals the last few years. Washington barely squeaked into the playoffs last year and being a decent team in the Eastern conference  isn't too much to brag about haha. But Those three are quality players, which was the main idea of my post, you kinda put words in my mouth
