West Virginia only up 4 with 17 minutes left.  Probably a little early to assume a Xavier loss.

Really a pretty good game going.  West Virginia up 68-65 with 7 minutes left.

That Xavier win about to look less impressive. Getting crushed at home by W. Virginia

They’re going to be a high seed tourney team. Probably make it in. UNC should be a little better than that but they haven’t played like it. Rutgers will be a bubble team. That’s about the extent of the data points we have so far.

Wins versus McWeenie St are worthless for everything except $$$.

at Xavier, UNC, and at Rutgers will all be quad one games.  In total, IU will likely have about 20 quad one games.  That's a **** ton.

How many do you think Purdue will have?

Around 20, but could be less than IU.  Their Big Ten conference schedule that IU has is tougher, and while Purdue has a tough non-conference they have some borderish Q1/Q2 games.

In non-conference, IU 's non-conference quad 1 games should be Xavier, UNC, Arizona, and Kansas.  Gonzaga and Duke are lock for quad 1's for Purdue.  Marquette could be, but might end up as a quad 2 if they aren't top 50 NET since that was at Purdue.  Florida State is currently 1-9 so you can write that one off.  West Virginia I would say should lean toward being a quad one but they really struggled once they got into Big 12 conference play.  Davidson I would doubt will be a quad 1 as they've struggled so their metrics aren't going to be very normal for them.

So non-conference, I would lean to saying IU has 4 and Purdue will end up with 3 or 4.

I'd wait and see on that UNC game. Q1 at home is top 30 right? UNC has lost to any team with a pulse in the noncon but do have opportunities against O$U and Michigan coming up. They proven they can get on a run but they'll actually need to win games to stay in the top 30.

Yeah, my bad.  For some reason I thought it was top 50.

Going to take a look at what KenPom rankings would currently say in terms of quad games for IU and Purdue.  The Pom rankings wouldn't be what the NET are, but NET is pretty useless at this point of the year which is why they don't publish it yet.

Check:  using Pom ratings, IU would have:

18 quad 1 games, 4 quad 2 games, 2 quad 3 games, and 6 quad 4 games.

Purdue would have:

17 quad 1 games, 4 quad 2 games, 6 quad 3 games, and 4 quad 4 games.

I think you're missing a game for IU somewhere? And ouch, 6 quad 4 games.

UNC could be a Q1 game but they'll need to do something. They haven't looked good.

6 Q4 actually isn’t that bad.  I would say that’s about average for most teams in the top 10 in NET.   Only a few teams like Kansas and Nova had less most others had 6 or more

I see them and think 40+ point wins and please no injury. I'm not sure how much benefit there is to those games.

Coaches want to keep their jobs and  schedule accordingly.   Unless a coach knows they are not getting fired they will continue to schedule that way.   Coaches like Wright and Self and Izzo know they can lose games and be safe.   I don’t like those games either but they are not going anyway.   If the zags can get a 1 seed playing 13 Q4 games or Texas Tech can get a good seed with playing 9 Q4 games coaches will still take the path of less resistance and the one the insures job security

Another issue is how wide that the NCAA has the quad 4.  160 teams would be quad one through three games at home;  203 teams would be quad four.  There is no incentive to play a home game to a team that you expect to, say be a net of 170-200 when hosting a 330 is the same quad.

Remember when Dexter Dennis seemed to be on the verge of committing to IU but ended up committing to Texas A&M?

Not working out real well for him.  Played in 7 games there, averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds in 25 minutes and shooting 40/26/75.  Only games in double figures were the opening two games against Lafayette-Monroe and Alcorn State.
