Butler hires in house and has a system in place right? I wouldn’t see why Archie would be shell shocked when the 3 most talented players on an 18-16 team left. Only people shell shocked are some IU fans that thought that the only problem these last few years were just coaching and getting a new coach would magically fix it all. There was a reason most national outlets picked IU to finish 10 or worse this year in the B1G and unfortunately for us IU fans it’s showing on the court.

Archie has a cool arrogance about his system and is confident in its success. Archie thought he had something special in DeRon Davis. Archie didn't know he had a team full of halfwits with zero competitive fire.

Hard to know what he expected in recruiting. He seems to be doing ok in recruiting but maybe he expected better. Who knows.

He isn't a quitter, so I'm excited long term still but I'd bet my bottom dollar he never thought we'd get boat raced at home by ISU and IPFW.

Things seemed to be going smooth with players buying in, in the off season. Currently it's a mess with energy, effort, and disposition. Not sure he expected that either.

I'mve come to the conclusion finally iu may never ever be elite again. It will be very difficult for Archie to get more than one 5 star every couple years
Our brand is terrible. Getting iu between 2ndand 6th place each year may be the best we can hope for and sadly I'm starting to become fine with it. We will never be able to outrecruit guys like izzo until we win big.

I can’t speak on what he thought he expected but I do know from all the interviews and press conferences he did before the season and when he took the job he pretty much said this is going to take same time and preached patience. I believe some on here said he was already making excuses or trying to lower expectations. I took it as he seriously knew this would be a process.

With IU stinking it up, seeing teams like TCU and Texas Tech have success just makes it even worse. You have to have good coaching to succeed at places like that. I’m also starting to feel like IU will never be elite again. Yeah we’ll have some good years but we’ll never be consistent. This job just brings too much pressure.m. (And we’re also cursed by bobby knight)

The problem is wh have never gotten the big name proven coach who can turn it around fast. Archie is a good up and comer but unproven at this level.
If hed can make us competitive but not elite no reason to try and rebuild again in 7 years. That may be the best we can hope for going forward

We have a laughably incompetent athletics department. It is a clown show. For schools like TCU and Texas Tech to be good and IU to be this bad is a searing indictment of Fred Glass and everyone who has a role in managing the IUBB program.
Keeping crean on the last two years should of been a fireable offense for glass. After finishing 8th and 7th back to back I knew we were in trouble when glass brought him back 2 years ago.. All I needed to know about glass and his vision.

Speaking of TCU Desmond Bane would have looked pretty good in candy stripes but he wasn't good enough to get an offer from FCTC.

He wasn’t good enough to get an offer from any High major D1 school besides TCU and that was a late offer. People on hear would of lost their minds if IU offered a 0 star kid with offers from New Orleans, ball st and Miami(Ohio)

The fact you say he wasn't good enough is false. He was its just no one paid attention to him because of the school he went to. He was 3x the player Gelon was but Crean wasn't afraid to offer him. The only people that would have freaked out would have been the people that don't know what talent looks like.

Agree. Kid is fun to watch. Hard to evaluate class A players. I was more pointing out that besides Crean, Painter, Brey, Holtman and even Lansing at ISU didn’t offer the kid a scholly

That is true but it was easy to tell that he was better than Gelon imo.

Brad Davison will be the next Badger ranked outside the top 100 that will be a thorn in the B1G side. I just watched him drop 23 on YouTube against some Australian team
