NOLA Hoosier said: The fact that Archie Miller and Dan Dakich is now what people outside the state think when they hear “IU” makes me ill.

________________

I'm an IU grad/native Hoosier living outside the state. Nobody I have ever talked to mentions Archie Miller and Dan Dakich when they hear "IU." Nobody even knows who Archie Miller is because the team has not made it to the NCAA Tournament when most people pay attention to college basketball other than the own school. If I say Archie's name, most people say "never heard of him." Most people turn off Dakich if they are even watching ESPN.  Older basketball fans still think Bobby Knight if IU comes up. Middle aged people might mention Mark Cuban. Younger people might say "I hear they have a good business school." Frankly, very few people outside the state react at all when they hear "IU."

^^This in a big way^^

I'm in Florida. Older folks think Bobby Knight still. Sports fans in Florida think "hey, I hear you guys are getting good at football!" My late high school/college age kids and their friends think Kelley School and music school.

You’re right. They’re right. And we do.

Makes a depressing IU basketball situation SO much easier to stomach.  I'm thinking of an expensive but worth it trip to Bloomington for the O$U home game this year. Can't say I had that "wish I could be there" pang for basketball even if they'd had fans in the stands.

Call me crazy, but depending on circumstances, I’d get to Bloomington for the Cinicnnati game if I had to choose one.

That y’all could debate which legitimately interesting FOOTBALL game to attend really does speak to the rabbit hole IU sports has gone down. Just can’t stop shaking my head over this being the state of things.
