I'm interested to see how the 15 Big Ten Tournament teams will be decided.  Since we will have unbalanced schedules, I would think a tool like the NET ratings would have to be used.  Will they base participation off of only Big Ten games or the entire schedule?

The Big Ten standings. That'll be it.

They have unbalanced schedules now.  It will be the top 15 teams of the B1G scheduled games.  I don’t agree with it I think every team should have a chance and more basketball is never a bad thing in my book.    Some smaller conferences don’t allow all participants in their conference tourney.  Pretty sure the MAC is that way but would have to look it up

The SWAC maybe? Ivy League only does top 4.

It's going to be hilarious though the the 18 team Big Ten only gets 7 teams in the tourney.

Just interesting data.

Mentioned this about a month ago that winning on the road is getting harder and harder. Latest I saw was 39% down to 33% this year.

Portal is changing all kinds of things.

Stated in tweet but this is ranked vs non-ranked top 10.

MAC only has the top 8 out of 12 that make.  Ivy League was last league to go to a conference tourney and yeah only 4 make it.

Essegian is such a pure shooter.

(fwiw, I’m pretty sure IU could have him if they wanted)

FWIW.....in the past two season, Conner Essegian is 83 out of 234 from three, or 35%.  I wouldn't call that pure shooting.

I wouldn't say he's so much a pure shooter but rather more of a guy who had a decent freshman season whom people assumed would follow the normal trajectory of Wisconsin players.  He's been pretty bad this year.

Yeah, **** that.  There is nothing ******* magical about a 15 team tournament as opposed to 18.  And **** the ******* 20 game league schedule.  GIVE TEAMS THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTROL MORE OF THEIR SCHEDULE.  If playing more conference games is such a positive, how come the last time the Big Ten won a national title there were only 16 conference games?

Sorry, that we could get him.

I’d call it a strong hunch. I think if any good program closer to home made a push for him he’d consider it but IU is always a top draw.

He was 36% on 5.5 attempts as a freshman. For reference we’ve only had two players have a season with 5.5 attempts in the last 7 years and none in the Woody era.

Something happened in Feb of last year. I’ve heard injury, I’ve heard issues with the staff, or maybe B1G defenses just started shading him, but he was 45% from 3 on the same amount of attempts until then.  From then on and then this season he was recruited over and Klesmit (guy Gunn elbowed) was given the other rotation spot. He comes in very sporadically and shoots a shot and gets yanked. Looks like he’s pressing to me—he’s actually attempting more 3’s per min this year than last but playing just 7mpg.

But the kid can flat out shoot and could excel in the right situation (like he was for 2/3rds of last season). Hypothetically next year, if IU were in 4 out system with Reneau down low, he’d be a great guy to have setting up on the arc. Reneau is an automatic double now. Having him kick it out and the ball reversed to guys like Mbako (assuming he stays), this kid from Monteverde, and someone like Essegien would be an offense capable of putting up a ton of points and very efficiently.

Honestly with so many teams joining the conference, it is a bit of a scheduling nightmare. Feels like the B10 could easily take advantage of the trend with pre season charity tournaments and check the box on some match ups while still allowing for more flexibility during the actual schedule. They're going to have to get creative about figuring things out in this evolving era. Sadly my confidence is not high that there are many visionary leaders in college athletics administrations/conferences, etc.
