Indiana Podcast

Recommended Posts

It starts with a overview of the KenPom ratings that came out today and then moves into Illinois for 35 or 40 minutes or so and then gets into Indiana at about the 46 minute mark. Pretty good stuff and covered a lot of points.

No, I am not the host.

But yes, I am trying to promote something here - good Indiana basketball commentary. I thought that would be ok on an Indiana basketball message board. If not though, that's fine - I'll stop posting things from BTPowerhouse. It just happens to be a site that I look at a lot now. Always some interesting articles that I thought people would enjoy. Sorry.

Sharing is all good, just make sure you add value in your post instead of just posting a link. We love people coming on to share basketball stories and articles, as long as it isn't for personal gain via web clicks.

Cool. I follow a lot of these one off sides and I actually don't think most writers even get paid at places like SB Nation or Bleacher Report, etc. Maybe the site manager gets a stipend of a few hundred bucks a month - but it isn't much. That is why I actually like these type of sites. The writers are doing it for fun - not pay.

Some of the writers do get paid on SBNation.  The pay isn't much but it's pay.

BR was sold for 200 million to turner broadcasting. I doubt they aren't getting paid nor is the site manager only getting a few hundred bucks.

Of course the overall site manager is getting paid. But the way these work is the there are sub sites set up. So BTPowerhouse for example is a subsite to SB Nation. I highly doubt anyone at BTPowerhouse is making hardly anything. SB Nation on the other hand as an overall site is a different story. Same concept at Bleacher Report. If you google them - they actually work on a points system where only the top writers out of the thousands that do it get paid.

There was an article not too long ago on Deadspin that a former BR beat writer (I guess you could call him that) for the Minnesota pro teams wrote. The higher ups like editors make decent money, but most of the guys writing those stories are lucky to see any money at all. He made it out to be a pretty shoddy business for the guys out there writing. Which I guess you can expect from a free website with crappy writing.

What I took from it was, most of the guys writing the BR articles are fresh out of college looking to get their foot in the door, or interns. They get put on that incentive program by the company to see how many page views they can get (hence the exaggerated titles with "eh" articles) and then they might get a salary position with them. Except the point system is ridiculously hard to climb, so very few people make it up the ladder and then a new cycle of young people come in. I don't think it's a horrible business model. Your best writers will get themselves, and more importantly the site, clicks while the not-so-great writers don't and get weeded out. But consumers have to deal with a lot of the not-so-great writing, especially in small markets with less writers to cover them.

Thanks for posting, Base.  I listened to everything that they had to say about IU.  I love hearing someone think that we can get to the Sweet 16.  For me, I just want to do a much better job of winning the close games.  Last year we had so many games that we were in til the end but couldn't close.  I think if this team can learn how to finish, then they can win a lot of those games that they would have lost last year.

It's nice to hear an unbiased opinion on the Hoosiers Basketball team, and obviously everyone's concern is the size down low.  That's definitely my concern, but I'm hoping a Zone defense can neutralize some of the bigger teams in the B1G, and offensively we just out score teams. Time will tell...

Yep me too, last year was the first year in a long time that I didn't make it the 1 hour drive south to Bloomington for a game.  I'm thinking that will change this year.  I got my wife to go with me to Hoosier Hysteria and she had a good time.  It was so much easier to get around this year than it was 2 years ago when we were Preseason number 1.  I waited in line 45 min's to get a freaking calendar that year.  I waited in an hour for the doors to open and still got the last seat in the balcony!
