2006 Villinova squad

I might be off about this but...I was wanting to compare that team with our potential 2014-15 team...weight/ weight/ class/ stats. Where would one find this? I know some have hinted at this, but I would like to see the math...so to speak.

by the way its Villanova.... :D

I mentioned this in the KenPom thread and have discussed this at times during the offseason, that trying to mimic the 06 Villanova team, that had four guys 6'4 or under average over 10 ppg, may be our best bet at success this year.

You can check out their roster and stats here. They were a little bit older though, with Ray and Foye both being seniors.

The only main difference is both Villanova and Illinois were veteran teams. All the main contributors on the 'Nova team were all seniors or juniors. Otherwise, mimicking the style makes perfect sense.

Kinda concerning that we have to dig that far back to find evidence of great "small ball" teams.

They'd be a good choice of a team to mimic though, that Nova team was tough.

Uh, UConn, last season. Not exactly small ball, but 75% of O came from Napier and Boatright. Daniels was/is our Troy Williams. Very similar makeup really if Hanner can protect the rim.

I would add Beilein's U of M teams to the mix. The last two years, they've trotted out a pg, one big, and three wings almost exclusively.

Think of how many truly dominant bigs you see in college ball. Guards can dominate this game with the right team chemistry and maturity. This team could be epic if we return the 8-9 rotation players next year regardless of whether we add Bryant.

Yeah--I actually think small ball has become the "rule" in college basketball instead of the "exception".

There are not that many dominant bigs anymore--especially since UK buy$ most of the best ones each year!  :rtfm:

Sorry--couldn't resist!

We can win with great guards--great wings--- and solid bigs!

I was thinking about next years team as I was daydreaming at work yesterday.  I'm not looking past this years team at all, but rather anticipating a team that should have a lot of depth in the front court.  This year we are one injury away from disaster down low, however next year we look to have very nice depth down low.  This of course is tentative with all of the transfers and turnover, but looking at our forwards next year is kind of fun.  We've got Hanner, Devin, Emmit, Troy, Juwan Morgan, and OG .  That is a lot of athleticism and interchangeable pieces to play with.  While we don't have a traditional big in that sense, we have 6 above the rim 6'7" to 6'9" ish players.  I can't remember a team at IU like that.
