Hey guys....

JSH,

That is my point too. I was going to reply the same thoughts but figured it would be a waste of keystrokes. Not all unheralded players are equal. People conveniently forget this.

Crean needs to figure out what his "model" is and abide by it. Calipari has his, The Grinch has his, Izzo has his. Not sure we are positive what Crean's model is yet. I think Priller, April, and even Holt are outliers to his strategy and "we" as fans will never really know what happened this off season but it wasn't the "norm" based on Crean's prior recruiting strategies.

Wisconsin's unheralded stars are generally well known HS players with serious skills. Bo deserves credit but not all the credit. The next surprise Wisconsin Star is Nigel Hayes. Borderline top 100 big with size and skill.

My point is someone like Priller isn't exactly a good comparison for the developing bigs angle.  Priller is someone that no one had ever heard of and only had offers from the likes of Incarnate Word and that is not on the same level as what Wisconsin is landing and letting develop.

They're not taking nobodies and developing them into contributors, that is the point.  You're saying they're letting players develop, but you're not mentioning that they're starting with decent players to begin with.  You can't really say "let Priller develop, like Wisconsin is doing" because Wisconsin isn't starting with the likes of Priller they're starting with players that were more highly thought of.

EDIT:  It's not an apples to apples comparison is what I'm saying.

Well I agree with what you are saying but you definitely didn't understand what I was saying. Im just saying give people a time to develop. I didn't say anything that Wisconsin was taking players like April and Priller. Im just saying that those are two guys that we have that don't seem up to scruff right now. I wasn't comparing apples to apples. Im simply saying that we should give these guys some time before giving them the "heave ho". I really haven't seen April, Priller or Holt play, so Im sitting neutral on them right now. but Im willing to let them get a few games before making my decision on them.

Tim Priller is an IU Hoosier and I will root for him as long as he is here!

His only other offer was not just from Incarnate Word-----he also had offers from Drexel, University of Illinois-Chicago, Lamar, and Albany.

And sure those are not big time BBall powerhouses---but Crean struck before the higher programs offered.  He had growing interest from Marquette, Arizona State, and Washington State and that spring many schools sent staff to evaluate him including Wake Forest, Miami, Arkansas, Texas Tech, TCU, Tulsa, etc. Those schools don't waste their time on someone without talent.

Coach McClain had worked with Priller's Coach at TCU and he personally asked McClain to come down and see Priller.  Priller played 5A basketball in Texas--the highest class and shot 51% from 3 point range and 78% from the line.  Several scouting articles I read said he was undervalued and underrated as a stretch 4.

My point in saying all of this is----let the kid play and give him a chance to develop.  His shooting alone is a D1 weapon.

If there is one area I trust Crean in---it's talent evaluation.    Hope Priller proves the doubters wrong!

What he is saying is that he agrees some players need time to develop but they need a better base set of skills and athletic abilities. He's saying they are taking guys like Holt or even though Hanner was highly ranked he's a guy that needed time to develop. They're not just taking in guys that nobody has heard of and turning them into solid B1G players, they're taking solid guys that just aren't getting much national attention.

I see what you are saying HoosierD-----we will have to see what category Priller falls into as he has not even played a game yet.

I will get criticized for saying this----but Priller sure reminds me of one of those bigs that Wisconsin develops and who kills us every year when he is a junior or senior!

Rebel, I agree we will have to wait and see if he can eventually provide something, but as for now he is in the category of an unheard of recruit.

rebel, I agree with you on Priller. Every year Wisconsin and someone like Northwestern has a big man that can step up and burry the 3 and it kills us. More and more teams are starting to have a player that does and I think we could use someone like that. The kid has a great shot, and will be a mismatch on the wing, and if given time, his other skills could catch up to his shooting

Kepner---looks like me and you may be yelling into the wind on this one.

Oh well----gotta stand for what we believe in!

I remember the first time I saw Brian Evans in person and I thought to myself---why did we recruit him?  And then I saw him shoot and thought----now I get it!

October is the slowest moving month every year. Don't get me wrong, College Football is great to watch. But I would rather watch an exhibition against U Indy than Auburn vs Mississippi State any day.

Even if Auburn and Miss St are #2 and #3? That one's tough for me. Props.

If IU was playing the Rose Hulman intramural bball champs, I would watch that and DVR Auburn-Hail State

Haha that's commitment. I'd AT LEAST flip back and forth, granted IU was on TV.

I think there is still a mystery with Priller until the season starts.

A guy like Priller can kill you being the trailer.  If he is as good as a shooter as advertised, an opposing 4 guarding him would not think to pick him up at the top of the key.  Even if he gets 4 minutes a game, that could be 6 quick points if you catch the other team off guard.

Roles on this team are hopefully being defined.

Everyone seems to want to ignore this post and how valid it is.

What is anyone ignoring about it? Just watch the tape. I don't need to know what schools were warming on him. He needs to dramatically improve to be average.
